KGOTHATSO .

CHAPTER : 42 .

She scrolls on her phone , everyone watching her in silence ..

Masentle : (whispers) where's Mandla ?

Kgothalo : outside ..

Masentle : she's not taking this well , she needs to burst .

Kgothatso : i don't need to burst , I'm not a balloon or anything .

Brenda : you're scaring us .

She sighs ..

Kgothatso : be unscared then , i don't know why you're all acting this way whereas I'm perfectly fine .

Kelebogile : you're not .

Kgothatso : where's Mandla ? let him come back now . Please call him ..

Mpiyakhe shakes his head and walks out , he glances at Mandlawenkosi who's on the chair crying .

Mpiyakhe : bro ..

Mandlawenkosi : hmm ?

Mpiyakhe : she's calling you .

Mandlawenkosi : i don't want to face her .

Mpiyakhe : you have to .

Mandlawenkosi : I don't want to , i don't know what to do .

Mpiyakhe : she's in denial , she's losing her mind .

Mandlawenkosi : im losing my mind too , i don't know what to do .

He sighs .

Mpiyakhe : please be here for her , she needs you and you know that .

Mandlawenkosi : (sighs) fine ..

He stands up and catches a deep breath , he walks inside and Kgothatso smiles at him .

Kgothatso : come ..

He walks towards her as she opens her arms , he gladly goes in and they share a hug .

Kgothatso : I missed you .

He glances at her as his eyes get teary ..

Kgothatso : what's wrong ? Are you in pain or something ?

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothatso ..

Kgothatso : is something wrong ? Why are all of you so emotional ? why are you all crying ?

Mandlawenkosi : we lost our child and your grandmother .

Kgothatso : so ?

Kelebogile : are you out of your mind Kgothatso ? Why aren't you reacting ? Why are you acting as if everything's fine !?

She says half shouting ..

Kgothatso : are you shouting at me ?

Kelebogile : you're not a metal ! you're human and you should express how you feel !

Kgothatso : i feel fine ! What do you want me to do ?

Kelebogile : I'll slap the shit out of you to get you to stop pretending dammit !

Kgothatso : I'm not pretending , im okay !

Kelebogile : I'll slap you so bad , i swear .

Mandlawenkosi : we can all see that she's not okay so please do not shout at her .

Kelebogile : (sighs) i don't want to be here , it hurts so bad .

She storms out ..

Kgothatso : when am I going home ?

Mandlawenkosi : you're not healed yet .

Kgothatso : but I want to go home and prepare for work , there are alot of patients to take care of .

Mandlawenkosi : you're not going to work .

Kgothatso : but I want to work .

Mandlawenkosi : you can't work Kgothatso ..

Kgothatso : actually .. can all of you leave ? I'm dead serious . I'd rather be left with Mandla and Kgothalo . Your energies are weighing heavily on me ..

Brenda : we'll leave dear , I hope that you really take all these emotions out . Lets go ..

They all walk out leaving Mandlawenkosi and Kgothalo ..

Kgothatso : please stop crying , i don't know what's up with you people .

Kgothalo : you know you don't have to pretend with us .

Kgothatso : what ?

Mandlawenkosi : you're not okay .

She swallows hard blinking away her tears ...

Kgothatso : how can i lose my grandmother and child in one day ?

Kgothalo : I guess it was meant to happen .

She shakes her head with her voice begin to tremble and break ..

Kgothatso : I feel so hurt ..

Mandlawenkosi : you know I'm here with you , we're both here wirh you .

Kgothatso : will you return my child and grandmother ?

Kgothalo : you know that's not possible .

Kgothatso : this hurts so bad , I...I...

Mandlawenkosi : let it all out ..

She looks up as her eyes begin getting red ..

Kgothatso : I don't deserve any of this .

Kgothalo : you don't .

Kgothatso : I curse your aunts Mandlawenkosi , I curse them so they die . I curse Zobuhle .. they're all the reason all of this is happening .

He nods ..

Mandlawenkosi : go ahead .

Kgothatso : they're gonna suffer the most painful death of their life , they're gonna suffer for taking an innocent baby's life .

She sighs heavily and looks down ..

Kgothatso : i want to sleep .

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothie ..

Kgothatso : please ...

He sighs and helps her lay down ..

Kgothalo : we're gonna see you later on ..

Kgothatso : okay ..

Mandlawenkosi : i love you .

Kgothatso : I love you too .

He kisses her forehead and they walk out ..

Mandlawenkosi : she's holding it in .

Kgothalo : she just needs to burst .

Mandlawenkosi : I'm finding it hard to be there for her , she's broken .

Kgothalo : she is , she's acting like everything is fine and it's not .

Mandlawenkosi : (sighs) I hope she opens up .. just like how she did now but deeper .

Kgothalo : lets pray so .

— FEW DAYS LATER ..

She stands up straight staring at the whole room, being here felt like she was in prison . She didn't even try to open up to anyone , she just wants to be in her own world .. though she feels bad that Mandla is going through something like this and she can't even do anything to console him because she feels just as worse as he does .

Mandlawenkosi : are you ready to go ?

She snaps out of her thoughts and nods .

Kgothatso : hmm ..

He takes her bag ..

Mandlawenkosi : come ..

He holds her hand and they walk out , the hospital staff glancing at her with pity . They walk out of the hospital and head to the car , he opens the door for her and she jumps in . He closes the door and jumps in also , he starts the engine and drives off ..

Mandlawenkosi : I've applied for your leave at the hospital , you're gonna get a few months off .

Kgothatso : hmm ..

He sighs lightly , he continues driving till they reach home . He jumps off and helps her jump off as well . They walk inside as her eyes land on the tiny coffin in the lounge . The couches removed , everything . The coffin just there with the flowers and candles .

Kgothatso : why didn't any of you tell me you'd be doing this ?

Mandlawenkosi : your mother thought it was best to let you come back home .

Kgothatso : I didn't agree to any of this .

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothatso , it has to happen either way .

She shakes her head and walks upstairs as her eyes land on the large framed picture they took the time she was 5 months pregnant , she sighs heavily placing her phone on bedside table and sitting down on the bed .

Kgothatso : I'm in so much pain , why did they take you away from me ? From your dad ? Before you even took a glance at us ? Why ..

Her eyes get teary ...

Kgothatso : I don't know what to do with myself , its hard ..

Tears involuntarily stream down .. heart aching and beating fast .

Her body begins shaking like a leaf as she crumpls to the floor, her legs unable to hold her up anymore. She lets out a blood-curdling scream, a sound that came from the depths of her soul.

She rocks back and forth, her body trembling with each racking sob. Her voice is hoarse from screaming, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Tears streamed down her face like a river, each one a sign of the unbearable pain she felt . Mandlawenkosi stands by the door watching her , his heart aching and his eyes tearing up .

His heart shattering into a million pieces , her face red and swollen . He starts walking slowly towards her , his heavy heart with emotion . He kneels down besides her . His hand reaching out to her .. she feels his presence bur doesn't look at him , she continues crying in pain .. as he wraps his arms around her . She looks up to him , her eyes searching for something , anything to hold onto and in that moment , Mandlawenkosi knew that he was all she had left apart from Kgothalo and her sisters .
