CHAPTER : 31

THE FOLLOWING DAY .

The yard is filled up once more , everyone preparing for the departure of Kgothatso to her new home . She's in her bedroom with Mandlawenkosi who's helping her pack up .

Kgothatso : the sweater as well .

Mandlawenkosi : okay ..

She heaves a sigh .

Kgothatso : I feel a bit emotional right now .

Mandlawenkosi : i know , it's not tough leaving your home and going to a new one but you know this will always be your home .

Kgothatso : yeahh ..

Mandlawenkosi : I'm gonna take care of you okay ?

Kgothatso : promise not to leave my side .

Mandlawenkosi : I promise you baby .

They pinky swear ..

Kgothatso : lets go . 

Mandlawenkosi : the dress fits you perfectly especially these ..

He says grabbing her *** ..

Kgothatso : Stop it !

Mandlawenkosi : I love it here .

Kgothatso : just take my bags and stop talking alot .

He takes her bag and they walk out ..

Kgothatso : you seem so sad .

Masentle : Gosiame is the only one left now .

Kgothatso : we'll never forget where we come from , we'll always visit you guys .

MaMofokeng : you shouldn't be a stranger , you know I'm your shadow .

Kgothatso : and I can't live without my shadow .

MaMofokeng : be a good wife , i don't want to hear Mandla complaining about you .

Mandlawenkosi : I hope I won't find a reason to complain ..

Kgothatso : he won't .

Masentle : lets walk you guys out ..

They all walk out , Kgothatso's eyes fall on the pregnant woman that's sitting under the tree rubbing her belly .

Kgothatso : do you know who that is ?

Mandlawenkosi : who ?

She points over to the woman and Mandlawenkosi moves his eyes there ..

Kgothatso : that one ..

Mandlawenkosi : under the tree ?

Kgothatso : yeah .

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothie ..

She glances at him .

Kgothatso : what ?

Mandlawenkosi : there's no one there .

Kgothatso : huh ?

Mandlawenkosi : it's just those men sitting there , there's no woman there .

Kgothatso : Mandlawenkosi I'm serious please . 

Mandlawenkosi : there's no woman there Kgothatso ..

Kgothatso : wait ..

She drops her bag and walks to the tree , she kneels infront of the woman who's crying .

Kgothatso : why are you crying ??

She continues crying without saying a word , Mandlawenkosi raises his eyebrow and glances at Kgothalo .

Mandlawenkosi : does she see things ?

Kgothalo : she can see dead people most of the time but she sees them whenever there's a message that's need to be passed on .

Kgothatso : why are you crying ma ?

She says placing her hand on her knee ..

Kgothatso : are you in pain ?

Her : I'll never be in pain like how you'll be in pain one of these months .

Kgothatso : what ?

Her : giving birth to a dead child is a pain that's cuts deeper ..

Kgothatso steps back as the woman starts laughing ..

Kgothatso : what did you say ?

Mandlawenkosi : wait ..

Mandlawenkosi walks towards her as she's about to fall down and holds her .

Mandlawenkosi : whats wrong ?

Kgothatso : she's laughing ..

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothatso ...

Kgothatso : leave me !

Everyone moves their eyes to Kgothatso ..

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothatso ..

Kgothalo : she's going into a trance ..

Kelebogile : **** .. no .

They run to Kgothatso who's trying to fight off Mandla ..

MaMofokeng : where are the drums ?

Masentle : I'll get them .

Kgothalo : let her be ..

Mandla lets go of her as she starts crying .. she holds her hands together shaking .

Kelebogile : who was she speaking to ?

Mandlawenkosi : she said she sees some woman over here and i told her that I don't see anyone .

Kgothalo : I think that was a spirit . The person must've passed on ..

Masentle sits down with the drums as Kelebogile quickly takes the beads and ties them around wrists and legs with Gosiame holding her .. the drums start beating and they start singing .

Nelisiwe : what the hell ? is this some type of witchcraft ??

Mpiyakhe : Nelisiwe !

Nelisiwe : I'm not gonna watch this , I'll be in the car .

She walks off and heads to the car ..

Brenda : ohh I hope she's fine .

Bab'Ndlovu : she must be .

Kgothatso closes her eyes sweating feeling the heat of the drums taking over . MaMofokeng pushes her wheelchair to Kgothatso ..

MaMofokeng : let them show you ..

Kgothatso : No !

MaMofokeng : Kgothatso !

Masentle beats the drums harder invoking the spirits . Kgothatso and MaMofokeng call upon their ancestors .

Kgothalo : God ..

MaMofokeng : Kgothatso ..

Sbe stops shaking as she sits back still crying , she places her head on her grandmother's lap .

MaMofokeng : its okay .

Kgothatso : why ..

MaMofokeng : you must go to your home and tell your husband .

Kgothatso : N..No ..

MaMofokeng : Mandlawenkosi , take your wife now .

Kgothatso : Koko no ..

MaMofokeng : whatever you saw is bound to happen ..

Kgothatso : No ..

Mandlawenkosi carries her as she cries out loudly . MaMofokeng heaves a sigh ..

Masentle : what did she see ?

MaMofokeng : if she doesn't tell any of you then it's not my place to tell .

Masentle : but mother .. she's crying alot .

MaMofokeng : he'll calm her down ..

Mandlawenkosi places Kgothatso in the car and jumps in as well , he glances at her as she's crying and heaves a sigh .

Brenda : take her home and let her rest . We'll drive behind you ..

Mandlawenkosi : okay .

He starts the car and drives off as Kgothatso immediately gets flashbacks of what she saw .
