CHAPTER 43 .

Mandlawenkosi : I'm sorry ..

Kgothatso : why did it have to be me ?

She says with a broken voice ..

Kgothatso : don't I deserve to be a mother ?

Mandlawenkosi : you do , you deserve to be a mother .

Kgothatso : then why did they do this ? why did they take my child away from me ?

He sighs not knowing what to say ..

Kgothatso : my heart is heavy , its broken .. I just lost a child , i lost my daughter and grandmother ... I lost my shadow .

Mandlawenkosi : I'm so sorry baby , I'm sorry .

She lets out the loudest cry as he continues consoling her ..

Mandlawenkosi : let it all out ..

Kgothatso : I can't ..

Mandlawenkosi : you're doing great ...

She shuts her eyes as more tears stream down ..

Mandlawenkosi : i love you , i love you and I'm always going to be here for you .

She hugs him tight , her body still shaking .. her head aching and her eyes swollen and painful .

Mandlawenkosi : I'm not gonna let go of you , I love you and I'll forever love you .

He kisses her forehead ..

Kgothatso : what do you think her name would've been ?

Mandlawenkosi : Sphiwosihle Reitumetse Ndlovu ..

She sighs heavily ..

Kgothatso : i didn't see grandmother was going to pass away , she prevented me from seeing that vision .

Mandlawenkosi : (sighs)

Kgothatso : I had a dream last night , she was holding my baby sitting by the river . As much as i tried reaching out to them , i couldn't . They were on the other side of the river .

Mandlawenkosi : how was she ?

Kgothatso : she was happy , giggling . Grandmother was singing the song she used to sing for me when i was still a child .

Mandlawenkosi : do you think she's in a better place ?

Kgothatso : i think so , i would've loved for her to come home with us and for grandmother to still be alive but destiny is not in our hands .

Mandlawenkosi : yeah ..

Kgothatso : my lower belly hurts .

Mandlawenkosi : oh I'm sorry , i forgot ..

He stands up and pulls her up , she winces a bit and he wraps his arms around her .

Kgothatso : thank you for being here , i know it's hard for you too .

Mandlawenkosi : i wouldn't abandon you ever , we're in this together .

Kgothatso : i know and thank you . Who took the picture on her coffin ?

Mandlawenkosi : your mother , Kgothalo couldn't do it .

Kgothatso : he must be taking it horribly as well

Mandlawenkosi : everyone feels so bad .

She sighs lightly ..

Kgothatso : its such a painful phase , i can't wait for it to end but i also am not ready to say goodbye to my grandmother and my child .

Mandlawenkosi : there's never a time where you're not going to be ready , you just accept and move on .

Kgothatso : (nods) ..

Mandlawenkosi : lets go , get you fed .

Kgothatso : I'm not hungry ..

Mandlawenkosi : you're gonna have soft porridge only and tea .. your mother said you shouldn't eat anything solid .

Kgothatso : (sighs) okay ..

He holds her hand and they walk out , she swallows hard glancing at the coffin ..

Kgothatso : she's so little .

Mandlawenkosi : tiny .

They walk into the kitchen and he lifts her up placing her on the counter ..

Mandlawenkosi : I'm not hurting you am I ?

Kgothatso : I'm okay .

He kisses her forehead and moves over to the pots ..

Kgothatso : who prepared the porridge ?

Mandlawenkosi : your mother , with my help .

Kgothatso : your help ? I'm scared now .

Mandlawenkosi : babe ..

She smiles lightly ..

Kgothatso : I'm joking .

Mandlawenkosi : I'm doing everything i can to ensure that I take care of you properly ..

Kgothatso : i appreciate the efforts .

Mandlawenkosi : I know you do ..

Kgothatso : so what's the way forward ?

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothalo is handling the funeral arrangements and your mother is arranging your grandmother's funeral .

Kgothatso : so many lost souls .

Mandlawenkosi : we were thinking of joining the two funerals together .

He takes the bowl and stands infront of her , he begins feeding her ..

He continues feeding her ..

Once he's finished feeding her , he washes the plates as she walks to the lounge . She slowly walks towards the coffin blinking away her tears , she sits on the chair and places her hand on it .

Kgothatso : hey baby .

She lays her head on her coffin ..

Kgothatso : Sphiwosihle ...

She takes a deep breath closing her eyes ..

Kgothatso : please connect with me , I need you nana .

She says beginning to hear her cries , her face flashes infront of her as a tear drops .

Kgothatso : my child ..

She breathes heavily holding onto the coffin as Mandla tries pulling her away but she shakes her head .

Kgothatso : i can hear her Mandla ..

Mandlawenkosi : Kgothie ..

Kgothatso : I can see her ..

He sighs placing his hands over her shoulder as she begins crying ..

Kgothatso : I want her to come back to us ..
