The next morning, Sbanisenkosi and Luyanda are sleeping on the one seater couch in the hospital. They spent the entire night there hoping that Mbali will wake up but no luck. Sbanisenkosi has called her mother to tell her what had happened with Mbali and her mother promised to be there first thing in the morning.
As promised, she parks her car and jumps off. She takes her phone and calls Luzuko before walking inside.
“Ma..” Luzuko answers.
“Did you know that Mbali was pregnant?” She asks Luzuko.
“What? I didn't know that and why would I need to know if she's pregnant or not?” He asks.
“I need you here at the hospital, explain to Reatlegile and come here. This is about your baby and you must come.” She says hanging up and walking inside. She gets taken to Mbali's ward and she walks inside. She glares at Sbani and Luyanda who are curled up on the couch sleeping. She then glares at Mbali who's covered with an oxygen mask. She heaves a painful sigh before walking over to the couch, she shakes both of them.
“Ma..” Sbani says getting off Luyanda and hugging her mother tightly, Luyanda rubs her eyes sitting properly. Her mother pecks her forehead and glares at Luyanda.
“You both look tired..” She says hugging Luyanda, Sbani walks to the bathroom earning a light frown from her mother. She decides to brush the though off and glare at Luyanda.
“Any progress?” She asks, Luyanda shakes her head.
“She's been like this since we got her admitted. She lost the baby and the doctor said she's fighting for her life.” She says.
“Oh Mbali, I wish I had known that she's pregnant..maybe I would've done something. Did you inform her mother?” Mrs Mbatha asks Luyanda.
“I did, she said she'll try catching a taxi here because she had a shift.” She replies, Mrs Mbatha nods and sits down.
“I'm pretty sure that she was pregnant with Luzuko's child. If that is the case then Luzuko is gonna pay damages for the baby even though it didn't survive.” She says.
“Hopefully..” Luyanda says walking around stretching her legs. The couch was too small for the both of them to be curled up on it but they did.
“Did you guys eat? I bought some breakfast for you.” She says handing Luyanda the plastic.
“We didn't eat and Sbani was complaining about feeling nauseas last night. I don't know when we slept but we did.” She says, Mrs Mbatha releases a low sigh.
“You know..you and Mbali are my daughters. We don't have be bounded by blood, I love you just as much i love my own kids. I felt so hurt when i heard that you were facing problems in your friendship.” She says.
“The choices we made weren't also pleasing Ma, we have to understand where Sbani's anger came from.” She replies. Sbani walks out of the bathroom holding her hands on her waist.
“What's in there?” She asks yawning.
“Mac'n cheese..” Her mother responds glaring at her body, Sbani shakes her head reaching out for her phone.
“I can't have that.” She says.
“You both have to go home and change as well, I'll stay here and look after Mbali.” Mrs Mbatha says.
“I was thinking that also, I need to change and also bring some stuff for Mbali as well. I might pick her mother up as well..” Luyanda says.
“Yes do that, Luzuko is coming and I want him to find me here.” She says, Sbani sighs.
“So she was pregnant with Luzuko's child? he's going to be so devasted shame.” She says putting on Chris's slides that he gave to her when they were coming to the hospital.
“Let me just go to the bathroom, I'll be back.” Luyanda says disappearing to the bathroom. Mrs Mbatha glares at Sbani carefully as she moves around.
“You're gaining a lot of weight.” She says causing Sbani to lift her head up.
“I have.” She says.
“How's everything between you and Nkanyezi?” She asks, Sbani sighs a bit and sits besides her mother.
“We ended the break thing and decided to try things out again. Everything's been going well but he's now upset with me because I wanted to come and see Mbali. You know he doesn't feel them very well.” She says, her mother nods.
“I hear you, try being reasonable with him and get him to understand okay?” She says, Sbani nods.
“I need a very long relaxing bath. My body is achy..” She says stretching her back, her mother smiles a bit. Luyanda walks out of the bathroom.
“We can go Sbani, I'll drop you off..” Luyanda says.
“You're dropping me off at Nkanyezi's place, I'll give you the location.” She says getting up.
“Sure, Ma we'll see you later okay?” Luyanda says hugging her, Sbani follows after and they leave the room. They walk outside of the hospital and head to Luyanda's car. They jump in the car and she drives off.
“Nkanyezi is so upset with me..” She says heaving a sigh.
“Because of me and Mbali?” Luyanda asks, Sbani nods.
“It's not a secret that my partner doesn't like you guys.” She says, Luyanda laughs a bit.
“I understand, I can't blame him though. I f*cked everything up and actually got his parents divorced.” She says.
“Everything happens for a reason chomi.” Sbani says taking her phone and turning it on. She sees Christopher's multiple missed calls and texts.
“I'm dead for real, so many missed calls?” She says checking them all, Luyanda continues driving for some time till they reach Christopher's place.
“I'll see you back at the hospital then..” Luyanda says kissing her cheek, Sbani nods and jumps off the car, she walks to the front door and opens.
“Oh what a lovely surprise..” Nkanyiso says glaring at Sbani who enters the house, she closes the door.
“Is that weetbix? please make some for me as well.” She says standing besides him as they side hug.
“You eat them? I thought you didn't.” He says taking out another bowl.
“I'm hungry and I'd eat anything right now.” She says sitting on the high chair and placing her phone down.
“How is your friend?” He asks.
“Fighting for her life, that's how she is.” Sbani replies playing with her fingers.
“We'll pray for her don't worry, what's her name konje?” He asks pouring her some milk.
“Mbali..” She says, he nods.
“Ehhe! yena u'Mbali. We'll pray for her, don't worry.” He says, Sbani looks around. No sign of Nkanyezi.
“Where is he?” She asks.
“He's in his study office on a live presentation. You stress my brother out a lot, you added onto the stress by ignoring his calls and texts.” He says.
“I wasn't ignoring the calls and texts, I turned my phone off and we had to be there for Mbali..Nkanyezi should calm down..” She says.
“You must learn to listen to your man, when he says no..it's a no not a yes. Open your ears.” Nkanyiso says, Sbani sighs.
“So I was supposed to take an uber late at night when he was clearly available to drop me off at the hospital?” She says shaking her head.
“Don't be surprised, he doesn't like your friends and I don't as well. However...” He chuckles before finishing his sentence.
“How old is Luyanda again?” He asks, Sbani shakes her head multiple times.
“Don't even think of it, I'll tell on you.” She says, he rolls her eyes and hands her the bowl.
“Thanks, but for real..don't do that.” She says.
“You can't detect what's in my heart, I'm not Nkanyezi mina.” He says as they start eating. Christopher comes walking down the stairs fixing his shirt, he glares at Sbanisenkosi.
“Hi..” He says opening the fridge and taking out a bottle of juice.
“Hello..” She responds eating, Nkanyiso chuckles and eats his food.
