Deadly obsession ,Chapter 38

SUKOLUHLE

I've been adjusting really well at the University of Wollongong in Dubai,Omg, Dubai is so beautiful, I'm telling you! Zibusiso got me a small apartment that's two hours away from the university. I miss him so much, I won't lie. But we both have to adjust to living this far apart from each other.

I feel overwhelmed by all the changes in my life, but I'm determined to make the best of it. After all, Zibusiso and I are doing this for our future. It's just hard to be so far away from the person I love. I know we'll make it through this, but I can't help but feel sad sometimes.

It's been two weeks since I started university, and I'm loving it so far. The classes are going well, and I'm really enjoying the new environment. I've also made a new friend - her name is Fikile. She's also new here, and we live close to each other, so we ride the same Uber to and from school every day. That's how we got to know each other. Zibusiso and I talk on video calls whenever we can, but he's been busy with work lately, so it's not as often as we'd like.Fikile and I have really hit it off, and she's been a great support for me in this new place. She understands what it's like to be far away from home and loved ones, and we've been able to lean on each other. I feel like I'm starting to find my footing here, and it feels good. But I can't help but wonder if this is just the honeymoon phase of being in a new place, or if this is how it will be from now on.

NOMATHEMBA

Work has been really hectic,With Suku away, and Zibusiso busy with his job, I'm the only one taking care of Zamo. She's such a wonderful kid - she's just started grade 1 and she's so excited about it. I've never seen a kid so eager to go to school every day. It's really sweet."

I smile as I think about Zamo's excitement. It's contagious, and I find myself looking forward to hearing about her day when she gets home from school. I can't help but wonder what her future holds.

I walk out of my office and head to the reception area to sign out for the day. I work as an accountant at a company, handling all the numbers and money. I greet the receptionist on my way out.

Me:"Hey Zandi," I say.

Zandi:"Hey girl!" she says with a smile, handing me the sign-out register.

As I'm about to sign my name, I notice a small bouquet of flowers sitting on the desk next to the register.

Me:"Where did these come from?" I ask, curiously.

Zandi:"I'm not sure," Zandi replies"but a handsome gentleman dropped them off earlier and asked me to give them to you."

I'm a little taken aback. I hadn't been expecting any flowers, let alone from a handsome stranger. I wonder who they're from and what the reason for the gift could be.

Me:"Do you know anything about him?" I ask Zandi.

Zandi:"I'm sorry, but I don't," she says, shrugging her shoulders. "He didn't say much, and I didn't want to pry."

I turn the flowers over in my hands, feeling a mix of confusion and curiosity.

As I'm leaving, I notice a small ticket attached to the flowers. I take it off and unfold it, curious to see what it says. As I'm reading the message, Zandi calls out to me.

Zandi:"Aren't you going to tell me what the note says?" she asks, sounding curious.

I laugh and shake my head.

Me: "Bye, Zandi!" I say, heading out the door.

I head to my uber I get in, the car pulls away, I turn my attention back to the note. I smile as I read the sweet words on the page. It's so thoughtful and unexpected, and it makes my heart flutter. I feel like a schoolgirl again, giddy with excitement. I can't help but wonder who could have sent me such a lovely gift.

When I get home, I find Zamo playing in the living room. I greet her with a big hug, and she squeals with delight.

Zamo:"Mommy Noma , you're home!" she says, hugging me tight. "I missed you so much!"

I smile, feeling a wave of love wash over me. It's moments like this that make all the ups and downs of life worth it.I feel like I'm a real mother I settle into the evening, making dinner and helping Zamo with her homework. We have a nice, relaxing evening together, and I'm grateful for the small moments of joy in my life. I still can't stop thinking about the flowers and the note. As I'm getting ready for bed, I pull out the note and read it again. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if it could be from someone I know. Could it be from someone I work with? Or maybe it's from a secret admirer. I try to put the mystery out of my mind and focus on getting a good night's sleep.

***************************************

I wake up the next morning to the sound of my alarm. I turn it off and drag myself out of bed. I head to Zamo's room and wake her up, helping her get ready for the day. She looks so cute in her school uniform, and I can't help but think about how my child in future will she/he look like .

As I listen to her chat away about her dreams and plans, I find myself smiling. I make her breakfast and then get ready for work.

After I'm dressed and ready for work, I make my way to the living room. As I enter, I see Zamo sitting with Mongezi, and my jaw drops. I'm not sure what to say or how to feel. Mongezi looks... I don't even know how to describe it. He looks different, but in a good way.

Me:"Mongezi?" I manage to say. He looks up and smiles at me, making my heart skip a beat.

Him:"Good morning, beautiful," he says, making me blush.

Me:"I... I'm just surprised to see you here," I say, feeling a little flustered. "I thought you were still in Johannesburg ?."

Him:"I came back a few days ago," he says, still smiling. "I wanted to surprise you, but I didn't know when you'd be home."

Me:"Well, you certainly did surprise me," I say, feeling my cheeks flush.

Just then, Zamo's school transport beeps outside. I help her with her school bag and lunch box, and she gives me a big hug and kiss on the cheek before running out to the transport. I watch her go,

When I turn around, Mongezi is still standing there, watching me.

Him:"I see you take good care of Zamo," he says. "Like she's your  daughter."

Me:"Well, I love her like she's my own," I say, smiling. "It's nice to have someone to take care of, and she's such a sweet and smart little girl."

Him:"That she is," Mongezi says, smiling back.

Me:"Uhm...I have to go to work, Mongezi," I say.

Him:"Can I drop you off?" he asks.

I hesitate, not sure what to say. I don't want to put him out, but it would be nice to have the company.

Me:"I... I have a ride already scheduled," I say, trying to sound polite. "But thank you for the offer."

Him:"No worries," he says, "because  not today tell the uber driver to fetch you tomorrow because today I will be the uber for you"he says I blush and nod

Me:"Okay then"I say taking my phone and do as told.

......

Mongezi dropped me off at work, he promised to come back and pick me up when I knock off," I say, feeling a small smile creep onto my face.

I walk into the building and head to the reception desk. Zandi greets me with a knowing smile.

Zandi: "Mhhh, someone's in a good mood today," she says.

I try to keep my face straight, but I can't help but feel a little bit giddy.

Me:"Who, me?" I ask, feigning innocence.

Zandi just laughs.

Zandi:"Girl, I can see that smile!I know it's about the handsome man who just dropped you off."

I laugh, feeling a little embarrassed.

Me:"I'm not sure what you're talking about," I say, playing along. "I'm just in a good mood today."

Zandi:"Sure, sure," Zandi says, rolling her eyes. "Well, whatever the reason, I'm glad to see you so happy. You deserve it."

I smile and thank her for her kind words.

Me:"Now, don't you have work to do?" I tease.

Zandi:"Don't rush me!" she jokes, shooing me away.

I laugh and head to my office and get started with my work....
