Deadly obsession ,Chapter 19

ZIBUSISO

My other injuries have healed, but the bullet wound is still taking its time to heal. It's been a week since we came back. I have to admit, I do feel a bit better knowing that the person responsible for Suku's condition has paid for what he did. I know it might sound harsh, but I really feel like he deserved a harsher punishment. But at least he's gone now.

....

I showered and got dressed, then made my way downstairs. The house was eerily quiet. My parents and brothers had left the day before, and Nomathemba had taken Zamo with her. All I could hear was the ticking of the clock.

I opened the fridge and found something to eat. After that, I grabbed my car keys and drove to the hospital. The roads were empty, and the silence in the car was deafening.

I pulled up to the hospital and made my way to Suku's ward. I entered the room, closed the door behind me, and sat down on the chair next to her bed. I took her hand in mine, feeling the warmth of her skin against mine.

Me:"Hey there," I whisper, my voice cracking. "I'm sorry I haven't been visiting as often as I should. I was...away, dealing with the person who did this to you."

I paused, my voice catching in my throat. Tears began to fall down my cheeks, and I took a deep breath, trying to steady my voice. "I'm sorry you're in this bed because of me. I was the one who was supposed to get shot, not you."

The words spill out of me, and I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest. I looked down at Suku's face, her eyes closed.

Me:"Please come back, Suku," I say, my voice barely a whisper. "I miss you so much. Zamo misses you even more." I wipe my eyes, struggling to keep my composure. "The house is not the same without you. Please come back."

I take a deep breath, trying to keep myself together. "That night, you said you loved me back...if you really love me, you'll come back. You'll wake up from this bed, you'll get off the machines. I know you can do itPlease, Suku, don't do this to me," I say, my voice trembling. "Prove to the doctors that you're still here. I need you, woman. I want to hold you and tell you how much I love you."

The machines started beeping, and Suku started shaking violently. I shot up from my seat, panic rising in my chest. I pressed the call button, and doctors and nurses rushed into the room, asking me to leave. I stepped out of the room, my heart racing, my mind reeling.

..

I paced back and forth, waiting for the doctor or nurse to come out. I looked at my watch, and realized it had been 30 minutes. Finally, the doctor emerged from the room, and I rushed to him.

Me: "How is she?" I ask, my voice shaking.

The doctor smiled.

Doc: "Suku is out of the coma, Mr. Khoza," he says. "She's breathing on her own, and we've taken her off the machines."

I felt like I could finally breathe again.

Me:"Can I see her?" .

Doc:"Of course Mr Khoza"

I walked back into Suku's room and sat down in the chair again. She was still unconscious, but the machines were gone, and she was breathing on her own. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

Me:"You're breathing on your own, Miss Nxumalo," I say. "Now you just have to recover and get out of this bed."

I smile at her, even though I knew she couldn't see me. Then I got up and kissed her forehead. I turned and walked out of the hospital, feeling lighter than I had in days.

....

The day seemed to drag on forever, but eventually I headed home. On the way, I stopped by my friends' house to check in on them. After a while, I drove back to my own place. I took a long, cold shower and dried off. I put on my briefs and a lotion, then sat down at my laptop to go through my emails. I answered the important ones, then settled in to watch a movie. I was so exhausted that I fell asleep long before it was over.

When I woke up, I felt refreshed and ready to face the day.I made the bed and headed to the shower, letting the hot water wash away the stress of the previous days. After I was clean and dry, I changed into my doctor's uniform and headed to the kitchen for breakfast. After a quick meal, I made my way to the hospital. I hadn't worked for a week, and I was eager to get back to my patients. I checked in with the front desk and headed to my office, ready to tackle the day ahead.

My first patient of the day was Mr. Smith, a kind older gentleman who was always a pleasure to work with.

Mr. Smith was always cheerful and friendly, and today was no exception.

Him:"Hello, Dr. Khoza!" he says with a big smile as I walked into the room. "It's so good to see you again!"

I smile back.

Me: "It's great to see you too, Mr. Smith," I say. "How have you been doing?"

Him:"I'm doing well, thank you," he said. "My arthritis has been bothering me a bit, but otherwise I'm doing just fine. And how are you doing?"

I spent a few minutes chatting with Mr. Smith, and then we got down to business. I checked his blood pressure, listened to his heart and lungs, and made sure he was up to date on his medications. He was in good health, overall, and I was glad to see him doing so well.

After a while, I wrapped up my examination and left the room to see my next patients .

The day flew by, and before I knew it, it was time to go home. I was tired, but it had been a good day.

*************************

before driving home I start to the private hospital Suku is at.I get there and head to her ward ,I find the doctor who was checking up on her

Me:"Afternoon doc"I greet him

Doc:"Afternoon Dr K"

Me:"How is she today?"

Doc:"Well she's improving she might wake up anytime or any day"he says I nod

Me:"Thank you doctor "I say

Doc:"You're very welcome," the doctor said. "Suku's been through a lot, and it's been hard on her. But she's a strong woman, and I'm sure she'll recover quickly. She's lucky to have someone like you in her life."I smile !

Me:"Thank you doctor," I say. looking at Suku, lying there, motionless, her face pale and drawn. My heart ache for her, and I wish more than anything that she could wake up soon.

I sat down next to her bed, taking her hand in mine. "I'm here, Suku," I whispered. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm right here with you." I hoped she could hear me, even in her sleep.

I stayed there for a long time, just holding her hand, talking to her softly. I told her about my day.

I stayed with Suku, talking to her and holding her hand, for what felt like hours. Eventually, though, I had to leave. I leaned down and kissed her forehead, and then I whispered, "I love you, Suku. I'll be back tomorrow."

I left the hospital..
