DEADLY OBSESSION

PROLOGUE

I really don't feel alright at all. I can't wait for this class to end so I can go home. I feel like something is not okay, but I can't put my finger on it. I never liked these late-night classes, but I had to come for help with the assignment. Finally, the tutor wraps up and I'm finished with my work. I pack my things and leave the classroom. I have a long walk home, and I'm already feeling annoyed, though I don't know why. Something just feels off.

I held my school bag tight, my heart pounding. I started running as fast as I could, racing towards my home. I didn't even see the gate - I just jumped over it and kept running. As I got closer to the house, I could hear a child's scream. I felt a chill run down my spine. I dropped my bag on the floor and ran to the kitchen, where I grabbed a knife. I ran upstairs to my sibling's room, my heart pounding in my chest. I felt like I couldn't breathe.

When I opened the door, I saw my father on top of my sibling, and I didn't hesitate. I shouted,

Me:"What are you doing, Papa? Get off of her!" and jumped on him, pressing the knife against his chest. He fell to the floor, blood coming out of his mouth. I dropped the knife and immediately went to my sibling's side. I picked her up and covered her with a blanket, trying to comfort her. I took her by the hand and we ran out of the house. I didn't know what else to do. I just wanted to get my sister away from that horrible place as fast as I could. We ran down the street, and I heard my father calling after us. I kept running, not looking back. I ran and ran, until I didn't think I could run any more. Finally, I stopped and took a breath. My heart was pounding, and I felt like I was going to pass out. I looked around, and I didn't know where we were.

I turned to my sister.

Me:"Are you okay?" I asked, still out of breath. She just nodded, and started to cry.

Her: "I'm scared," she said.

Her:"Where are we?"

Me:"I don't know," I said, trying to sound reassuring. "But I know that Papa won't find us here."

We started walking, and then a car pulled up next to us, its headlights shining in our faces. We stood frozen in fear, and then the driver got out.

Him::"Are you okay?" he asked, clearly concerned. "Did I hurt either of you?"

Me:"No," I said, still in a bit of a daze. "But we need help. Please, can you give us a lift somewhere?"

Him:"You're with a child," he said, looking at my sister. "I'm not sure it's a good idea for me to take you anywhere. It's really late. Where are your parents?"

Me:"We can't go home," I said. "We need to get somewhere safe, please."

He looked at me, then at my sister, and then back at me.

Him:"Okay," he said finally. "I'll take you somewhere safe." He opened the back door of his car and we got in. I felt a rush of relief as he got back in the car and started driving. We didn't know where he was taking us.

....

......

Me:"Are you okay?" I whispered to my sister. She just nodded, but tears were streaming down her cheeks.

Her: "It hurts down there," she said through her tears. My heart broke for her. I hugged her tight, trying to comfort her. I didn't know what to do. We must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I knew, the man was shaking me awake.

Him:"We're here," he said. I looked around, trying to get my bearings. We were standing in a big house, with lights shining in our faces. He led us down a hallway and into a bedroom with a big bed. I gently placed my sister on the bed, tucking her in and kissing her forehead. She looked so small and fragile, and I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility for her. I stood up, trying to get my bearings. The man stood in the doorway, looking at me.

Him: "Do you want something to eat?" he asked. I shook my head.

Me:"No, thank you. We just need to rest." He nodded and started to leave the room.

Him: "I'll be right down the hall if you need anything," he said, and closed the door behind him.

After the man closed the door, I felt like I could finally let my emotions out. I sank to the floor, tears streaming down my face.

Me: "I should have left with you," I whispered to my sleeping sister. "I'm so sorry. I wish I'd gotten there sooner, that I could have protected you." My tears kept coming, and I felt so helpless. I finally pulled myself up off the floor and went to the door. I found the man in the living room, watching TV. I cleared my throat and he turned to me.

Me: "I need the bathroom," I said. He got up and led me to the bathroom, opening the door for me. I thanked him and went inside. As soon as I closed the door, I felt like I could breathe again. I looked in the mirror, and I saw that my hands were covered in blood. I must have gotten some of it on my face, too. I felt a wave of nausea, but I fought it down. I turned on the water, trying to wash the blood off my hands & on my face. I decided to just take a bath. I took off my bloodied clothes and stepped into the bathtub. I let the cold water run over me, and I stayed there for what felt like hours. Finally, I got out of the tub, feeling numb and exhausted. I pulled on my hoodie, the only piece of clothing I had that covered my bottom. I walked out of the bathroom, my head spinning, and went to the room where my sister was sleeping.

As I got closer, I could hear her breathing, slow and steady. She looked so peaceful, so innocent.

I pulled back the covers and snuggled up next to my sister. I held her close, feeling the warmth of her body against mine. Slowly, I drifted off to sleep, my head spinning with the events of the past few hours. As I slept, I kept seeing the horror of what had happened to my little sister. It was like a nightmare that wouldn't end. I felt like I was trapped in a never-ending loop, reliving that moment over and over again. I couldn't escape it, no matter how hard I tried.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I opened my eyes. It was the man from before, holding a glass of water and a pill.

Him:"These will help you sleep," he said.

I sat up and took the pill, then gulped down the water. I laid back down, and he said, "Just close your eyes and rest."

I did as he said, and the next thing I knew, I was asleep.
