Through Thick & Thin

CHAPTER THIRTY NINE

I remember my wedding day like it was just yesterday, because it was. We arrived in Giyani in the early hours of morning and we were all tired, but we weren't given time to sleep because we had to prepare for the exchange of gifts. My family was catered for and well taken care of and so was I. The Nyathi family did not allow my family to sleep in hotels and they were instead given a relative's house to stay in. Akani's friends all came down to Giyani, except for Nkosiyabo because apparently Akani warned him to stay far away from us. The following day, after the exchange of gifts, I was woken up in the early hours to get cleansed as well as perform a ritual called Xigugu. At that point, I was seeing Akani less and less and missing him more and more.
