Through Thick & Thin

CHAPTER SIX

Mashesha has been speaking ever since I entered the taxi and yet I can't seem to concentrate enough to hear what he is saying. As usual, he is in a chirpy mood, something I wish for myself but know very well that it will remain just that. I was a very optimistic child and strove on making others happy. That was before my mother mysteriously fell ill, that was before my father started dreading coming back home, before Nkokheli was arrested multiple times before me and before making the huge decision to abandon my dreams. I wanted to work for SANSA but now I see that it was ridiculous of me to even dreams that big. So many intelligent people in the world, where was I going to fit into all of this? Small South African girl with big dreams.
