CHAPTER EIGHT
I find myself unable to sleep after the awkward dinner we had. Mama encouraged that we all sit and eat together, as a family. Ever since she fell ill, we stopped doing that because she was bedridden. I would feed her and then eat after, in my room or with Nkokheli. As for my father, I always dished up for him and left his food in the microwave. One day he came back from work and told me that he had already eaten and since then, I stopped dishing up for him. My mother tried to brighten up the mood by starting a topic that she knew we would all participate in but she was the only one happy enough. I was stuck in my head, as Nkokheli was. He seemed down and barely ate. I get up from the bed, put my robe on and head to the kitchen to procure a glass of water.
