CHAPTER 26

SNEAKY LINK

Nobantu wrapped a doek around her head and walked out of her bedroom going to the big rondavel. She sighed thinking of how everyone was going to receive her complaints.

She was only a wife traditionally here but she was ready to fight for her marriage come what may.

She walked inside the rondavel and sat down as her uncle and his wife walked inside the house. They both looked at her and sighed.

Mandilakhe's older brother walked in laughing with his uncle.

"No uncle I'm not ready for marriage."

"Your younger brothers are married Sandile."

"It doesn't matter at least I'm going to have a son in a few months."

"Wena you're just like your father. I really didn't think he'd ever get married."

"I was just waiting for the right one mntakatata."

"Let's all sit down. Umh today we're gathered here because umakoti wethu has some complaints about her husband.

Mandilakhe turned to look at his wife. She looked so relaxed and unbothered making him remember that they never really finished talking that other day.

Nobantu got up from the reed mat and looked at everyone in the room. She didn't understand why some other people were in this room because she only called the elders.

"Umh mholweni bantu abadala. I've been Mandilakhe's wife for two years now. Early in our marriage I found out that he was still with a woman he told me he broke up with that's how I lost my first child. It seems when I was lying on the hospital healing he started sleeping with my doctor. For the past two years they've been sleeping together. She's pregnant, she came to my house to tell my husband that. Instead of apologizing to me Mandilakhe started blaming me for his infidelity saying I'm slacking as his wife. I'm the same person who cooks for him, clean and wash his clothes. He comes back home every day of the week around 11 to 12, at 5 I wake up and get him ready for work I go as far as making him lunch and sending it to his office since he barned me from going there apparently I'm ugly. I want him to tell me why he married me knowing I'm ugly? Why is he waisting my time when I could be leaving my life without him?"

The whole room went silent as the elders looked at Mandilakhe who was looking down seemingly embarrassed."

"Mandilakhe kwedini silinde wena."

"Tata I want to apologize to my wife I know I did he wrong by sleeping with someone else whilst married to her. I was also wrong for blaming her instead of taking responsibility for my actions. I'm not sure if that girl is really pregnant because I've never once slept with her without the use of protection if she is pregnant I'll take full responsibility for the child."

"You haven't answered any of our daughter in-laws questions mtshana."

"You're not ugly mnkam ewe you're not the prettiest but you're not ugly and you didn't read all those texts I'll show you later. I never said you were ugly baby I never will because I married you fully knowing that people will tease you. I'm sorry for not putting effort in our marriage I promise I'm not waisting your time I want you I want our marriage to work. I love you."

"Makoti are you okay with what he said?"

"Ewe tata but I also want to know when am I getting my white wedding."

"Uncedile ubuze Makoti. Mandilakhe when are we getting your white wedding?"

"Soon mama I promise."

"Good well since y'all are here. sandile here wants to pay damages for the girl he impregnated."

"Why doesn't he pay lobola?"

"Not now mama. I'm not ready for marriage I'm still building my company."

"Yhoo ndakufa without having another Makoti in this house. Lakhe ithini into yakho?"

"Yima mama. Ima."
