TWO QUEENS IN MY CASTLE 2

ORATILWE

On weekends I'm the one who bathes my mother. It is really difficult to see her in this situation and I know for a fact that she hates being helpless. She wears adult diapers now because speaking is a struggle so we won't know when she needs to relieve herself. I can't say I'm fully focused at school with everything that's been happening but I know I need to pass or else she'll just get sick worse. She has always been curious about how I do on my school work so now I just show her my marks and tell her all the juicy gossip. It's not like the old days where we used to sit under the tree and do each other's hair while gossiping but at least I know she's listening.

My phone rings while I'm still dressing her. I haven't spoken to my boyfriend for a while now after our fight and I was never going to call him first. I quickly put her in the dress and help her get on the wheelchair before I answer the phone outside.

"Mmh," I need to sound like I wasn't yearning for this phone call or else these men will think we actually need them.

"Is that how you greet your man after we haven't talked for so long?"

"You're the one who didn't want to talk," I'm not going to give him the satisfaction.

"I'm down the road. Can I see you?" The excitement in me blossoms. I miss him so much and I could run out that gate and into his arms.

"Let me get my mom settled first. Give me 5min."

"Alright," I hang up. I return to the house to take her to the living room and switch on the TV. I get the pot of water ready on the stove for her porridge and I believe it'll be boiling when I return.

"I'm going to be back mama. I'm going down the road for a few minutes then I'll come feed you," I walk out to meet my boyfriend. He's waiting at the four way stop under a shade. The last time I saw him, things got intense that we exchanged vulgar words. He pulls me into a hug and he just has that effect on me so I give in.

"I missed you so f*cken much," he whispers the sweet words in my ear.

"I missed you too," I hold on tighter to him, taking in as much scent as I can through my nostrils. He lets go and gives me a kiss on the forehead.

"I came to apologize. I was wrong but you were also wrong in a way. I figured keeping the distance and being quiet wasn't helping at all," he says.

"I was wondering how long you were prepared to keep up the act. I'm sorry too for acting childish that day," I say.

"So can I see you later? We could grab some food and talk because I miss you a lot," he holds my hand.

"I'll ask my brother to look after mom coz today it's my turn. He has been looking after her all week and I'll also get some free time tomorrow because I need to study and prepare for school."

"Alright you'll let me know," he pulls me closer for a kiss. I hope tonight I can also be able to ride that d*ck after the talking.

KABELO

I walk into the house and find the water boiling on the stove. It has been boiling for a while since the stove and the floor are wet and my mother is just sitting there in the living room. I shift the pot and call out for Oratilwe but she's nowhere to be found. It's almost past the time for my mother's medication time and she hasn't even been fed yet. I take over to cook the porridge and Ora only returns way after I've done feeding mom.

"Oh my goodness. I totally forgot that I left the pot on the stove. You're such a life saver bro," she walks to her bedroom. I give my mom her meds and follow Ora.

"So I leave you with mom for an hour and you decide to walk out thar door without even feeding her?"

"I was going to feed her. I went to see Jimmy down the road and..."

"Don't f*cken tell me about that useless boyfriend of yours. You know it's like you're under his spell and there's nothing else that matters when he's around," I'm furious. Ora cannot prioritize a man before mom.

"That's not true," she turns her back on me and takes out her books.

"The whole week I've been looking after our mother but I ask you to take over for one day and you can't."

"I'm sorry, Kabelo. I didn't mean to go for so long," her tone isn't even remorseful.

"Ever since you knew how a d*ck tastes you're out of line. I'm not going to tolerate this nonsense. I'm not going to let you put our mother's health in risk for a d*ck that doesn't even feed you," at this point I could slap her.

"Chill out. I apologized so what's your problem? Or maybe you should get a girlfriend and stop being so sour because wow," she rolls her eyes.

"Oratilwe are you talking to me like that?"

"Clearly brother you've got some salt issues. You're angry and it's not healthy."

I grab her arm and pull her off the bed. My hand lands on her cheek and I send her flying to the wardrobe.

"You will not talk to me like that again. I'm already dealing with a lot and I'll not let you add to my stress. If you think you're a woman now and can backchat, pack your things and go live with that man of yours," I walk out to my mother who's upset about all the commotion. For a minute I forgot she is in the house and the last thing I want is to worry her.

"I'm sorry ma. It's just that I'm going through so much and Ora is just being a brat," I crouch in front of her. She shakes her head and drops a tear.

"I..don't..w..want...noise," she says. She hasn't spoken for a while now and it hurts me that when she does speak, it's nothing pleasant.
