CHAPTER 1

DEAR MRS...

CHAPTER 1

MIGCOBO CEMBI

When I left Johannesburg 10 months ago I wasn't sure of my plans I'm still not sure even today. I was supposed to give birth a few months back but here I am still heavily pregnant. I know what to do my grandmother has told me countless times but I'm scared. Scared of the mess I left behind. Kuhle tried to call me countless times but I rejected his calls and went as far as changing my Sim card. It's the early hours of the morning and I just woke up. My grandmother is still sleeping. I take the bag with the baby's things and pack my own I don't know what awaits me back there but I need to give birth before my baby gives up on me.

I walk to the kitchen and plug water in and make myself something to eat. The past 10 months have been hard on me especially when my grandmother found out about my pregnancy she was livid it was worse once I told her about the father. If I was not pregnant she was going to beat me up .

"Why are you up so early tshanas?" My uncle asks walking inside the kitchen whistling. He has a farm I'm sure he's getting ready to go there.

"I'm going to Johannesburg malume." He stops on his tracks and looks at me like I've grown horns or something.

"Who did you tell? Ngoba mama didn't tell me anything. " The frown on his face has me squirming uncomfortably on my sit. My uncle is as strict as my father was.

"I didn't tell anyone malume." He shakes his head opening the fridge. He takes out an apple and a bottle of water.

"No tshanas you can't go there alone and their home is in East London we're going there I'll call ubhuti he's supposed to be coming to see mama this weekend." I won't argue with him I don't have the energy too. I think this is my fight alone ekugqibeleni i did this to myself.

"Okay malume."

"Ubeready around 12 we'll drive up there." I nod and go back to bed I'll wake up layer.I'm woken up by umakhulu telling me to get ready utatomdala is on his way. I get up and sort out my room I'm greatful for my belly not being too big otherwise I wouldn't be able to do somethings.

By the time I'm ready tatomdala is already here with his wife. She doesn't like me not that I like her either. I walk out with my bag and the baby's bag. Tatomdala'wife looks at me with her nose flared. Utatomdala gets up to help me with the bags.

"Nana who are these people who got you pregnant?"utatomdala asks as I take a sit on the couch God my back hurts like hell.

"NgabakwaGcaleka oMaxhosa tatomdala." Tatomdala'wife looks at me with wide eyes. We all know this family it's big and has money.

"How did you get a Maxhosa man when you didn't even go to un..." tatomdala cuts her off before she can finish saying it.

"Mnkam if you have nothing better to say keep your mouth shut." She sighs looking at me like I stole her favorite doll or something. I look away not paying her any attention.

"Okay mama we'll be on our way then."

"Please be safe. Nana call me when you get there and don't let anyone bully my grandchild Ndlalifa." My grandmother says looking at tatomdala.

"No one will bully uNana mama don't worry Lungelo asambeni!!" Mqlume walks out of his room looking good. He's big when it comes to fashion and he's always making sure he makes a statement.

We walk to tatomdala's fortuner and drive off. I fall asleep in the car and by the time we get in East London I'm dog tired. Malume takes the wheel and drive Kuhle once told me ukuba kokwabo kuseTsholomnqa eNewrest. When we get to Newrest we ask around until we find their homestead it's huge and it looks like there's umcimbi going on. We park outside the yard and get out of the car. My eyes land on him when I look up. He stops and stares at us probably trying to figure out if it's really me.

He rushes to us earning a few eyes. When he gets to me he engulfs me in his arms sniffing me. God I missed him so much he still smells and feels as good as he did 10 months ago. One of my uncles clears their throats and Kuhle let's go of me but his eyes remain on me.

"Kuhle who are these people?!!" Someone asks behind him. He let's go of me clearing his throat before turning to look at whoever asked him.

"It's Migcobo tata the girl I told you about I guess these are her family members. " the old man nods looking at me more like looking at my big stomach.

"Come inside." I follow behind my uncles and Kuhle's father with Kuhle holding my hand he keeps squeezing. I stop on my tracks when my eyes land on his wife she looks mad.

"Tata can I take Migcobo away for a minute there's something I need to discuss with her."

"Okay but I'll need you two don't go to far." He drags me to another direction and I can tell his wife is following us. He opens a door to a rondavel and we walk inside. He kisses me closing the door. I doubt he saw his wife following us.

"God I missed you." He says in-between the kiss. I can't help the moan that escapes my lips. I have been starved for so long my fingers were even lacking now. We're disturbed by a knock. He let's go smiling down at me rubbing my stomach. My little girl kicks causing him to laugh.

"She's active isn't she?"

"Yes she is." I walk away from the door taking a seat on the couch as he opens the door. His wife walks straight at me and slaps me across the face taking both me and Kuhle by surprise. Kuhle rushes to her and takes her hand .

"Why would you do that? Can't you see she's pregnant?" He asks glaring at her. The wife huffs her eyes set on me she's livid I can tell.

"What is she doing here? So you're still seeing this girl isibhanxa ndim Yakhanani?!!"she's shouting at him. The Kuhle I know hates being shouted at.

"Don't ever shout when talking to me Liyana. Sit down so we can talk like the adults we are."

"Adults? Seriously Yakhanani she's a kid. A fuckin kid what is wrong with you?"

"What is wrong with me is the fact that I'm married to an irrational person. I did you wrong and I acknowledge my mistakes I've apologized countless times for that. Now can you sit down we have to talk."
