CHAPTER 2
DEAR MRS...CHAPTER 2
MIGCOBO CEMBI
I really don't understand where sis'Liyana is coming from ngoba I didn't chase after her man. It's her man who came onto me and he came at a time I was really desperate for help I just thought why not be selfish at once? For myself and sanity even. The only rational thing she can do is sit down with me and talk. I wouldn't have came here even if it wasn't for the child I'm carrying. It's obvious their ancestors want me here. My cheek stings she sure knows how to throw a slap but tk shout and act like a hooligan isn't something I thought she would do but then hell herth no fury than a woman scorned I think it goes like that. I sigh looking at her I'm tired and I need to eat and sleep.
"Sit down Liyana and apologize to her. Slapping her wasn't necessary at all."
"Sorry."
She says and sits down I can tell she doesn't mean it not that I would too if I were in her shoes. Kuhle sits next to me rubbing my back I guess he can tell I'm uncomfortable.
"I want to talk to her alone Yakhanani." I'm sorry mnkam I can't leave you with her. You'll attack her and she's heavily pregnant as you can see." She sighs blinking rapidly she's holding back her tears. God I did that I broke that woman.
"It's okay Kuhle you can leave us."
"Mimo y..."
"Please." He sighs and gets up reluctantly. He walks tl the door and opens it walking out he doesn't fully close it though and I know he's standing right next to it.
"You can go Yakhanani I won't attack her I swear on my grandmother's grave." The door closes and we hear footsteps fading away. I'm looking down at my hands playing with my fingers. I never thought in my life I would be seating like this with a wife of a man I've been sleeping with and even got pregnant for.
"So what was your plan?" She asks looking at me with her arms folded on her chest.
"I don't follow sisi."
"Sleeping with a married man. What was your plan? Trap him with a child and then what? Secure the bag with a baby?" I shake my head looking at this woman I really don't blame her for asking me this kind of question it's something alot of woman think of in my situation.
"No I didn't mean to get pregnant it was our mistake. I really didn't want your husband's money but it helped me in a way."
"Why my husband?"
"You ask as if I went after your husband sisi."
"Kanti kutheni? My husband has never cheated on me in the 19 years we've been together. Kodwa kwafika esisifebe s..."
"I'm not a whore I was never a whore your husband came onto me he found me desperate and it didn't help that I've had a crush on him so I grabbed that chance unfortunately it resulted in this pregnancy. I respect you as my elder but I'll not tolerate your disrespect towards me. I don't owe you any loyalty he does. I've never promised you anything he did but I'm the one who got a slap for what? Giving a man what he was lacking home please don't make me say things that will hurt you ngoba I can just as you can. If you can't have a civilized conversation with me then please let me walk out of here. I didn't come for you or your husband. I want to finally give birth it's been 11 months now I deserve a break so please ndehle."
It's quite for a while before the door opens and the man I've come to know as Kuhle's father along with Kuhle's son walk in. Kj comes to sit next to me rubbing my tummy and my little girl dances around causing him to laugh.
"Damn mkhulu we have a soccer star here."
"Kuhle wenzani?!" His mother shouts glaring at him. He sighs letting go of my tummy.
"Phuma Kuhle and call your dad with her uncles."
"Okay mkhulu. Bye sisi."
"Bye boy." He walks out of the house.
"You're Migcobo right?"
"Ewe tata."
"Okay ndingutamkhulu kaKj utatakaKuhle. Unjani sisi?"
"I'm okay kudinwa qha."
"Ndiyayiqonda Mthatha is very far. You'll get some rest after this meeting."
Kuhle walks in followed by utatomdala nomalume. Malume sits next to me while tatomdala and Kuhle sit next to each other.
"Uhm madoda ndinguLionel mna the head of this homestead since my father's death. My son came to me 10 months back telling me about a girl he got pregnant. I don't want to lie when he told me I was mad I've never thought him to get a woman who is not his wife pregnant. A few moths back I started having dreams that I went to my uncle for she told me that there is a woman who is pregnant with the first girl child of this family after 5 generations of not having girls. MakaKuhle I don't know if your husband has told you what needs to happen or not."
"He did but it's not happening tata. I'm not going to share my husband."
"I'm sorry to say this but we're going to take her as a wife whether you like it or not. She won't be able to give birth if she isn't introduced to our ancestors as a wife to Kuhle." To say I'm shocked is an understatement. I did not expect all this I just thought I have to come here then ndizolunywa and give birth. I'm not ready for marriage I was never ready even.
"How is this going to w..."
"My husband is not taking this girl as a wife. If he does I'm leaving." Kuhle looks at her shaking his head.
"Umh bantu abadala we're going to send a letter to your family for lobola. In the meantime we'll have to introduce uMimo to the ancestors as my wife so she can give birth I can tell she's not okay. W..."
"Yakhanani I said you're not ta..."
"Liyana we're going to talk about this layer but now ndenza what is right for uMimo nomntana wam."
"If you dare take her as a wife I'm leaving."
"Makoti I don't know why you're fighting this. Kuhle didn't say he's leaving you and we can't leave this girl heavily pregnant can you think for her? We just want her to give birth."
"There's no need for ilobola then. She's going to be introduced azale emva koko she's going wherever she came from with her child. Ohlukane nomyenam."
"Ayizokwenzeka keleyo if you want to leave hamba and leave my kids behind. I told you this way before today. I also told you even before we found out that I have to marry Mimo that I'll take her as my second wife. I don't know why you're doing all this but what I won't do is change my mind. Ufuna ukuhamba go no one will stop you kodwa know this I'm not divorcing you I didn't marry you to divorce you. I know what I said on my vows and I'm going to stand by them."
Liyana sobs looking down. Dear God why did I agree to sleep with this man? I should've ran the other direction when he came onto me. I don't want to be the reason for this but then we can't take back the hands of time to change my actions.
