Oops ! I got married while drunk

Thandeka adjusted her choir robe, feeling the fabric rub against her skin like an unwelcome reminder of her duties. The congregation sang joyfully around her, but her heart was far from the hymns of praise that echoed in the church. Instead, it was racing with thoughts of freedom and excitement, images of colorful lights and pulsating music swirling in her mind.
After the service, as the choir members greeted parishioners and shared warm embraces, Thandeka’s gaze fell on her best friend, Lindiwe. With her infectious laughter and vibrant personality, Lindiwe was the spark to Thandeka’s steady flame—a reminder that there was a world outside the church walls just waiting to be explored.
“Thandeka! You won’t believe what I just heard!” Lindiwe exclaimed, practically bouncing on her heels as she approached. Her hair bounced in perfect curls, mirroring the excitement that radiated from her. “There’s a party at Masego’s house this Friday. It’s going to be epic! You have to come!”
Thandeka hesitated. “A party? You know my mother wouldn’t approve. I have choir practice, and—”
“Forget about choir practice for one night! It’s just a little fun. No one will die if you miss one rehearsal. Besides, it’s time you let loose a bit!” Lindiwe's eyes sparkled with mischief, and Thandeka could feel her resolve weakening.
“But what if someone sees us?” Thandeka fretted, picturing her mother’s face if she found out. “What if Pastor Nomsa—”
“Please, your mother doesn’t own you! You’re an adult! Just think about it—no more sermons, no more choir robes, just pure unadulterated fun!” Lindiwe waved her hands in exaggerated flair, as if fanning away the oppressive weight of church obligations.
With a deep breath, Thandeka felt a flicker of excitement. What if? What if she could finally experience the thrill of life outside her mother’s expectations? Perhaps just this once, she could step into a world of colorful lights and laughter.
“I’ll think about it,” she finally replied, trying to sound nonchalant, but inside she was already rehearsing her dance moves.
As the week dragged on, the temptation of the party gnawed at her, pulling her away from her responsibilities. Friday arrived, and Thandeka found herself standing in front of her mirror, a mix of anticipation and dread swirling within her. She wore a daring outfit—something she had stashed away in the back of her closet, hidden from her mother’s watchful eyes.
Lindiwe arrived promptly, dressed to the nines and bursting with energy. “You look amazing! Are you ready to unleash the groove?” she said, pulling Thandeka into a twirl that sent them both into fits of laughter.
As they made their way to the party, the sounds of music pulsed through the air like a heartbeat, drawing them closer. The moment they stepped inside Masego’s house, Thandeka felt the intoxicating rush of freedom wash over her. People danced, drinks flowed, and laughter echoed around them, a vibrant tapestry of life she had only seen from a distance.
Thandeka's initial hesitation melted away as she surrendered to the rhythm of the night. She danced like nobody was watching, letting loose with every beat that coursed through her veins. As the drinks flowed and her inhibitions faded, she spotted Siphiwe—tall, handsome, and utterly captivating. With his playful grin and charming swagger, he seemed to embody everything she had ever wanted but never dared to pursue.
“Dance with me!” he beckoned, and Thandeka felt her heart skip a beat. She threw caution to the wind, allowing herself to be swept away by the music and the moment.
The hours passed in a blur of laughter, dancing, and occasional drunken antics. And just when Thandeka thought the night couldn’t get any crazier, Siphiwe took her hand, pulling her toward a corner where a group of friends had gathered.
“Let’s do something crazy!” he declared, and before she could process the words, they were standing in front of a makeshift altar, the laughter of their friends ringing in their ears. In a whirlwind of giggles and bravado, they exchanged vows, words slurred and laughter echoing off the walls, sealing their fates with a hasty promise.
As the sun began to rise, Thandeka awoke in a daze, her head pounding and the memories of the night flooding back in a chaotic haze. Panic surged through her as she turned to find Siphiwe still asleep beside her. She took a deep breath, squinting against the morning light streaming through the window.
What have I done?
Little did she know, the hilarious consequences of that fateful night were only just beginning to unfold.
