CROSSING BOUNDARIES
CHAPTER 85
CHAPTER 85
SEASON FINALE
Nikky blankly stares at the hospital ceiling.
She's alone now. The nurse has just left, and the silence in the room is loud, almost suffocating for her. Her eyes are swollen from crying. She cried so much in the taxi… until her body gave up.
Now she feels nothing. Just numbness.
Broken and hollow.
Her heart is heavy with pain and disbelief, and one question keeps repeating in her mind over and over again.
Where did I go wrong… again?
Her lips tremble slightly.
Another one. She lost another one.
She squeezes her eyes shut for a second, trying to stop the tears, but they slip out anyway, quietly running down the sides of her face into her hair.
She heard the doctor, same old story.
"Stress."
"It wasn't time."
Words that mean nothing now.
Words that don't hold her. Words that don't bring anything back.
She doesn't even know what is wrong with her anymore. Her body feels like it is failing her.
Like it keeps betraying her.
Her breathing becomes shaky for a moment as that thought settles deeper inside her.
Mnotho.
Her heart drops at the thought of him.
He will walk in any moment now.
She knows it. And she doesn't know how to face him. She doesn't know what to say.
She doesn't even know how to look at him.
Shame creeps in slowly and painfully.
What if… this is the moment he gives up on her?
What if this is the moment he chooses something else… someone else?
Her fingers curl slightly into the sheets.
I couldn't even give him this. Her thoughts spiral, heavy and cruel. Her chest rises and falls slowly as she fights to stay calm.
And, the ward door opens, softly.
She doesn't turn her head.
But she knows. She knows that presence.
That familiar scent reaches her, wrapping around her gently.
It's him. Mnotho.
Her heart reacts immediately, beating faster, but instead of comfort, fear fills her.
She quickly closes her eyes.
Pretending and hiding.
She's too scared to face him.
Too scared to see disappointment in his eyes.
Too scared to see pain… that she caused.
His footsteps, slow, careful getting closer.
Then the bed dips slightly as he sits beside her. Her hand is taken into his, warm and familiar. And that almost breaks her again.
"Peaches…" Mnotho says gently, his voice soft, filled with worry and something deeper, something that hurts to hear.
Her fingers twitch slightly in his hand.
"I know you are awake," he continues softly.
There is no anger in his voice.
No blame. Just pain.
"Please look at me," he says, his voice shaking just a little now.
His other hand moves to her cheek, brushing it softly, wiping away a tear she didn't even realise had fallen.
That gentle touch, that love.
It shatters the last bit of strength she had left.
Her lips quiver.
And slowly, She opens her eyes.
Their eyes meet.
For a minute, everything goes quiet.
Nikky only sees the hurt in Mnotho's eyes.
And it breaks her even more. Because in her mind, it's all her fault.
She swallows hard, her throat burning.
She feels like she has brought nothing but pain… nothing but chaos into his life.
Drama, Fighting and tension.
She knows Mnotho has been fighting with his siblings because of her. She remembers him saying they even brought Khwezi into his other house, as if to replace her, as if to provoke him. She remembers his anger, how he said he would rather sell that house than allow them to disrespect her like that.
All of that… Because of her.
Because of loving her.
Her eyes slowly fill with tears again.
All his problems are because of me.
Her lips tremble as the guilt grows heavier inside her.
"I'm sorry…" Nikky says first, her voice hoarse, weak, barely holding together.
The words come out broken.
Mnotho blinks rapidly, immediately shaking his head.
"No… no, don't apologise," Mnotho says quickly, his voice soft but firm, trying to hold her together. "It's not your fault," he adds, squeezing her hand gently.
But Nikky slowly shakes her head.
She doesn't believe him. She can't.
"It's my fault, Mnotho…" she whispers, her voice cracking now. "My body failed again…" she adds softly, her eyes dropping away from his, unable to face him anymore.
Tears slip down her face again, quietly.
"And I'm sorry about that…" she continues, her breathing shaky now, each word filled with pain.
She pauses for a second, gathering what little strength she has left.
Then she says the one thing that has been haunting her.
"I'll understand… if you want nothing to do with me," she adds, her voice breaking completely now. Her fingers slowly loosen in his hand, like she's already letting him go.
Like she's preparing herself to be left.
Her heart feels like it is falling apart inside her chest.
Mnotho exhales deeply.
Not in anger, not in frustration, but in pain.
His hand tightens around hers, refusing to let go. He leans closer, his forehead almost touching hers, his eyes searching her face.
"Don't say that…" he says softly, his voice low, almost shaking now.
Nikky lets out a broken breath, shaking her head slowly.
"But it's true…" she whispers, her voice fragile. "Every time… every single time something good happens to me… it gets taken away," she adds, her tears falling faster now.
Mnotho closes his eyes for a second, like her words are cutting deep.
"I can't keep doing this to you," Nikky continues, her voice trembling badly now. "I can't keep losing… and then coming back to you empty-handed," she says, her hand slightly pulling away again.
But Mnotho doesn't let go. He holds her tighter, Firm.
Like he's refusing to let her drift away.
"Nikky…" he says her name slowly, opening his eyes and looking straight at her.
"You think I'm here because of a child?" he asks quietly.
She doesn't answer.
Her lips tremble as she looks away.
"I'm here because of you," he continues, his voice deeper now, filled with emotion. "I chose you… not what you can give me. I told you, I don't care if we have children or not. All I want is you," he adds.
Nikky shakes her head quickly, tears falling again.
"But what if you change…?" she whispers, her voice small, scared.
"Stop," he cuts her off gently but firmly.
She freezes.
"I don't want to hear that," he says, his hand moving to her face again, wiping her tears softly. "Don't decide my future for me, Nikky. I won't change my mind. I love you," he adds, his voice steady, certain.
Her breathing becomes shaky again, uneven.
"You think I don't feel this?" he continues, his voice cracking slightly now. "You think I'm not hurting?" he asks, his eyes filling with tears he's trying so hard to hold back.
That breaks her completely.
"I am hurting…" he admits quietly. "But not because you failed me…" He pauses. His jaw tightens slightly.
"I'm hurting because you are blaming yourself for something that is not your fault," he finishes softly. "I'm hurting… because I'm scared that I might lose you too," he adds, his voice dropping.
Nikky sobs, covering her mouth with her hand, her whole body trembling.
"I'm hurting you, Mnotho…" She cries softly. "Maybe your family is right… maybe I'm not good enough for you," she adds, her voice breaking into pieces. "I'm not the kind of woman you need in your life, you need someone strong, someone who can give you everything… and I'm not that…"
She pauses, her breathing shaky, tears streaming down endlessly.
"I'm tired… I'm so tired of trying and losing," she whispers painfully. "Every time I hold on to something… it slips away from me. I don't even recognise my own body anymore… I don't trust it," she adds, her voice filled with defeat.
Her eyes slowly lift to meet his again.
"What if I keep breaking like this?" she asks, barely above a whisper. "What if one day… you wake up and realise loving me is just pain?"
Mnotho just stares at her.
For a second, he says nothing.
Her words sit between them, harsh and painful. His eyes slowly fill with tears, the ones he has been holding back finally breaking through. He looks down, shaking his head slightly, like he's trying to fight it but he can't.
A soft, broken sound escapes him.
Just soft and painful.
Nikky freezes when she hears it.
She has never seen him like this before.
Mnotho lifts his hand to his face quickly, wiping his tears, but more fall.
"I don't know what else to say to you…" he whispers, his voice weak now. "I don't know how to make you see what I see when I look at you," he adds, his breathing uneven.
Nikky's heart sinks deeper.
He lets out a soft laugh.
But there's no joy in it.
"You think you are not strong…" he says, shaking his head slowly. "After everything you've been through… you're still here… still fighting and you think that's weakness?" he asks, his voice breaking again.
More tears fall from his eyes.
He doesn't even try to hide them now.
"I'm the one who is scared," he admits quietly. "Because no matter what I say… you keep pushing me away," he adds, his voice trembling.
Nikky shakes her head quickly.
"No, I'm not…"
"You are," he says softly, not harsh, just tired.
Silence falls again.
Mnotho slowly lets go of her hand.
That small action feels louder than anything.
Nikky's breath catches.
He stands up slowly, turning away from her.
She watches him, panic rising inside her, her fingers gripping the sheets tightly.
"Mnotho…" she calls softly, her voice breaking.
He pauses. But he doesn't turn around.
"I love you…" he says quietly, his back still facing her. "But I can't keep fighting you while I'm trying to fight for you at the same time," he adds, his voice low and breaking.
Tears stream down Nikky's face faster.
"Please don't leave…" she whispers, her voice shaking, almost disappearing.
Mnotho closes his eyes tightly.
That hits him hard. It shows in the way his shoulders tense in the way his hand curls slightly into a fist.
But he still doesn't turn around.
"I know it's the pain talking…" he says softly, his voice gentle but firm. "I know you don't mean half the things you're saying right now…"
A pause.
"I'm not leaving you," he adds quietly.
Those words land deep.
Nikky lets out a shaky breath, but the tears don't stop.
Mnotho swallows hard before speaking again.
"I just… need a minute… before I break completely in front of you," he admits, his voice barely holding.
Another pause.
"One of us needs to be strong," he adds quietly. "I understand you're in pain, Peaches… please, just rest," he says, softer now, almost pleading.
And he walks out. Without looking back.
The door closes gently behind him.
But to Nikky, It sounds like something inside her has just been torn apart.
She stares at the door, frozen.
Her lips tremble.
"I didn't mean to push you away…" she cries softly into the empty room. "I'm just… scared…"
.
.
.
At the waiting room, Lunga, Sylvia, and Mbongeni are arguing.
Lunga is still angry at Sylvia for not going to get help for Nikky. Sylvia didn't tell anyone that Nikky is at the hospital. Ntobe doesn't know. Letsatsi doesn't know. No one knows.
And that makes Lunga even more angry.
"I didn't want people to panic and ruin the wedding," Sylvia defends herself. "And Hlengiwe stayed behind to make sure everything goes smoothly," she adds.
"The wedding was already over, Sylvia," Lunga fires back, her voice sharp and filled with frustration.
Sylvia rolls her eyes, clearly not feeling guilty.
"Okay, please, let's all calm down," Mbongeni says, stepping in. "Nike needs us now, not this bickering," he adds, trying to keep the peace. "Everyone will be informed tomorrow morning."
Lunga huffs, her eyes still locked on Sylvia, full of anger and disappointment.
"That's why I say we should find her mother's family," Lunga says, her voice softer now but still urgent. "Maybe all this is happening because her people need her," she adds, her thoughts racing.
Sylvia scoffs loudly.
"I don't know why you're scoffing, because I know you know where Nike's family is," Lunga says, stepping closer, her voice rising again. "Why don't you just give me their address?" she asks desperately. "Maybe if we find them… maybe Nike will finally be okay. No more losing babies like this," she adds, her voice cracking slightly.
Sylvia's face hardens.
"I don't know them," she says coldly. "Funani just dumped Nike on me without telling me anything about them," she adds, clearly irritated, before turning and walking off.
Lunga watches her go, her jaw tight, her hands clenched.
"We will talk about finding Nike's family tomorrow," Mbongeni says softly with a sigh. "For now, we should all rest. Nike is sleeping," he adds, trying to calm things down.
Before anyone can respond, the door swings open.
Mnotho walks in.
The mood immediately shifts.
Mbongeni's face hardens as soon as he sees him. He had heard about Mnotho and clearly, he is not pleased.
"Mbongeni, please, not here," Lunga warns coldly, noticing the look on his face. "Don't start drama," she adds firmly. She is tired of people making everything about themselves instead of Nikky.
Then she turns to Mnotho, her expression softening.
"Mnotho… thank you for everything," Lunga says gratefully.
Mbongeni clicks his tongue, annoyed, looking away.
Mnotho just nods quietly, too tired to say much.
"I asked the doctor to keep checking on her," Mnotho says softly, his voice low and heavy. "I'm scared Nikky might hurt herself," he adds, his eyes filled with worry. "I told the doctor this is her third miscarriage, so… Nikky might just…" he trails off, unable to finish the sentence.
"Third?" Mbongeni asks loudly, shocked.
The word stays between them, unsettling.
He didn't know.
Lunga turns to Mnotho quickly, her eyes wide with shock too.
"Uh… yeah," Mnotho says slowly, now confused by their reactions. "Nikky told me in the past she had two miscarriages," he adds, looking between them.
Silence fills the room, shock and confusion.
Mnotho shifts uncomfortably.
"Let me… get going," he says quietly.
No one stops him. No one even responds.
They are too busy processing what they just heard.
Mnotho turns and walks out.
Leaving behind more questions than answers.
"Third? Isn't this her second miscarriage?" Lunga whispers, her voice filled with shock.
Her mind starts racing.
She didn't know about this.
Why didn't Nikky tell her?
Mbongeni huffs, clearly frustrated, his jaw tight.
"Let me go find Sylvia. I'm sure she knows something," he says, standing up quickly.
There's anger in his voice now.
He walks out without waiting for a response.
Lunga watches him leave, her heart heavy.
Then slowly, she sinks into the couch.
Defeated and heartbroken.
Her eyes fill with tears as the weight of everything settles on her.
"She went through all that… alone…" she whispers softly to herself. Guilt creeps in.
Lunga realises just how much Nikky has been carrying by herself.
•••
Konke had been trying everything to connect with Diamond. He tried everything he was told, but nothing worked. He couldn't see her, didn't even know how long he had been here. At first, he tried to escape, but whenever he found a way out, he ended up back here again. Slowly, he began accepting his fate and stayed.
At first, he and Mpiyakhe, the angry ancestor, clashed constantly. Mpiyakhe was supposed to guide him, to teach him, to help him but there was still a gap between them. Konke knew something had happened between Ndleleni and Mpiyakhe, and he would have to travel to the past, see a vision from long ago, to understand what really happened between them.
Now, as he steps into the dream realm, trying desperately to find Diamond, he knows Mpiyakhe will find him and scold him. Konke pauses suddenly as he hears someone crying softly, a sound so soft, so piercing, it strikes straight to his heart. He follows the sound and spots a door. He walks toward it and opens it, freezing at the sight. Nikky sits on the grass, tears streaming down her face, sobbing like her whole world is falling apart.
Konke frowns, confused. He steps closer, looking around. The place is unfamiliar, strange. As he moves closer, Nikky turns to look at him. Konke gasps.
"You can see me?" he asks softly.
Nikky just nods, her sobs continuing, uncontrolled. He knows he is in Nikky's dream again.
Konke exhales slowly, his chest aching. Seeing her like this broken, vulnerable hits him. He slowly sits beside her.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying like this?" he asks, his voice full of concern.
Nikky's shoulders shake as she sobs, tears spilling down her face.
"I… I lost my baby, Konke," she whispers, her voice trembling with every word.
Konke's heart sinks. He has feared this moment, somehow known it might come but hearing it, seeing it, feeling her pain, it hits him like a physical blow.
Before Konke can even say anything, Mpiyakhe appears next to them. Konke frowns, shock written all over his face.
"What are you doing here?" he asks, his voice shocked.
Mpiyakhe ignores him completely. Instead, he kneels slightly and gently pulls Nikky into an embrace, his hand tapping softly on her back.
"Shhh… it's going to be okay. You need to rest… your spirit needs to rest. You've cried so much," Mpiyakhe says softly, his voice gentle, tender. Konke freezes, confused. He's never seen Mpiyakhe this way, warm, kind, and gentle.
Nikky continues sobbing into Mpiyakhe's shoulder, not even glancing at him.
Konke swallows hard, his own voice barely above a whisper.
"Nikky… remember the plant I gave you? There's a letter I put on it. It will tell you everything you need to know," he says softly.
Nikky nods slowly through her tears, her body shaking with grief, but doesn't stop sobbing.
After a while, Nikky finally grows quiet. Konke lets out a slow, shaky sigh of relief. Mpiyakhe gently lowers her to the ground. Konke can see she's sleeping, her body still trembling slightly from her earlier sobs. His eyes move to Mpiyakhe, confusion written all over his face.
"What's going on? And don't lie," Konke says, his voice sharp, commanding.
Mpiyakhe gazes at Nikky for a long moment before finally looking back at Konke.
"I was in love with her great-grandmother… and of course, Ndleleni came and ruined everything," Mpiyakhe says coldly, his tone carrying a weight of old pain.
Konke's eyes widen in shock.
"What?" he whispers, disbelief and confusion mixed in his voice.
Mpiyakhe stands slowly, his gaze drifting away from Konke.
"You two… you're distant cousins," he says softly, and walks off without another word.
Konke gasps, his body trembling slightly. His mind races, trying to make sense of it.
"What… what?" he whispers to himself, barely able to breathe, his heart pounding with shock.
•••
Sylvia walks slowly toward Nikky's ward, annoyed, drained, and furious. Yes, she's happy that Nikky lost her baby but it ruins Ntobe's day, and that makes her even angrier. Ntobe and Letsatsi are outside looking for parking, and Sylvia wanted to see Nikky first, to gloat, to laugh, to revel in her "success." She meant every word when she told Qhakaza that she would end Nikky's legacy, her bloodline, her everything and now everything is unfolding according to Sylvia's plan.
She reaches Nikky's ward and pauses at the door, staring through the small window. She frowns as she sees Mnotho, just sitting there, gazing at Nikky, who sleeps, rubbing her cheek gently. Sylvia's eyes narrow. This man is in love, he loves Nikky. And Sylvia knows this must be dealt with fast.
Genesis is still busy trying to fix the mess in his parlours, so Sylvia can't call and go through their plan. She needs a fast, cunning plan now. She studies Mnotho, thinking maybe Sno could help but Sno is not well, hospitalized with a head injury. Sylvia bites her tongue and composes herself. Both Nikky and Mnotho are vulnerable… perfect. A wicked smile spreads across her face as her plan forms.
Maybe she should step in herself. She looks at Mnotho again. He's handsome, strong, trusting and Sylvia knows the weakest thing for a man is desire. She knows how to manipulate him. Yes, that's it. She can trap him. And Mnotho will fall for it. She sighs softly, straightens her posture, and opens the door, stepping in.
Mnotho lifts his eyes and sighs, tired. Sylvia approaches him with a kind, sweet smile.
"How's she doing?" Sylvia asks, her voice soft and innocent. She needs to act kind for her plan to work.
"She'll be fine," Mnotho says, his voice low and tired. "She's been quiet all this time… until she fell asleep."
Sylvia's heart jumps in excitement. Mnotho is sad, vulnerable, completely devoted, he really does care.
"I know," she says, nodding slowly, her voice calm. "That's how she is. When she's hurting, she shuts everyone out, stays quiet." She knows Nikky well. This is her third miscarriage, Nikky will retreat into a dark place, pushing Mnotho away, isolating herself.
Mnotho just nods silently, still holding Nikky's hand.
"I think… after she gets discharged, we should meet and talk about her cleansing," Sylvia says, planting her seed. Mnotho looks at her, eyes tired, wary.
"Don't worry, the family isn't upset," she adds, lying effortlessly. "We decided to do this early. We can all meet at my place… Lunga will be there."
Mnotho nods again, trusting her words.
"Anything for Nikky," he whispers, squeezing her hand gently.
Sylvia smiles, her gaze sliding toward Nikky, who sleeps unaware. She would rather die than let Qhakaza's daughter be happy, not after what Qhakaza and Funani did to her. If she has to go low, manipulate, even seduce Mnotho to see her plan succeed… so be it. This will send Nikky spiraling, maybe even to the point of self-destruction. And Sylvia will win. Nikky becomes Qhakaza and Funani's sacrificial lamb.
"Let me give you my number so you can set up this meeting," Sylvia says, her voice soft and innocent.
Mnotho hands her his phone, unaware that he's already falling right into her trap. He trusts her, and that trust is exactly what Sylvia needs. Her mind races with the next step. She will visit her healer, get the most powerful oil, charms, or anything she can use, something that will make Mnotho unable to stop thinking about her, even when he's with Nikky. Every part of her plan is precise and cruel.
•••
3 days have passed now. Mnotho has been focusing on his work, trying to distract himself from falling apart. Nikky needs him more than anything, and yet, she feels so far away from him. He is heading to Pimville now for a meeting. He will be meeting Nikky's mother and her aunt, to discuss a cleansing ceremony. Mnotho didn't inform Nikky, because she has been very distant. So he thinks it is best to deal with this himself… until she comes back to him, the happy, bubbly Nikky he knows and loves.
He had told his siblings, but none of them gave him the comfort he needed. The truth is… he feels alone.
As his phone rings, he glances at the screen. It's Sylvia.
As he's about to answer, the phone slips from his hand. He quickly loses focus and presses the brakes, bringing the car to a sudden stop. He almost hits someone. His heart jumps.
The woman walks up to his window calmly. Mnotho quickly opens it, still shaken.
"I'm so sorry, are you okay?" Mnotho asks, his voice filled with concern.
The woman just smiles and nods.
"I'm okay. You didn't hit me," she says softly. Then her expression changes, becoming serious.
"You should call your wife… she needs you," the woman says, her eyes fixed on him.
Mnotho frowns, confused.
"You should call her," the woman repeats, her voice firm now.
Then she turns and walks away.
Mnotho quickly bends down, picking up his phone, his mind racing. He lifts his head to look at her through the rearview mirror, but she's gone. Just like that.
Mnotho blinks, confused, his breath shaking.
"What the hell?" he whispers to himself.
His phone rings again. It's not Sylvia this time, it's Nikky.
He blinks rapidly, his heart jumping, and quickly answers.
"Peaches…" he says, his voice filled with shock.
"Hi, baby… are you coming home?" Nikky asks softly.
Mnotho stays quiet for a second, still trying to process everything. Hearing her voice like this soft, calm, it catches him off guard.
"Can you buy me cinnamon rolls on your way back?" Nikky adds gently. "Konke's plant is bitter… I need something sweet," she says, letting out a small, soft giggle.
Mnotho exhales slowly, relief washing over him, his heart settling a little. She sounds okay… she sounds like herself again.
"Okay… I'll buy them," he says softly. "I'm coming home now."
.
.
.
Meanwhile, Sylvia has prepared herself. Lunga went out, and Sylvia knows she will come back very late. The healer told her to be completely naked for this to work. With a gown loosely wrapped around her body, she waits. She looks at the hidden camera she hid earlier and smiles to herself. Everything is working perfectly for her.
She hears a car driving in. Her heart jumps with excitement.
She knows that's Mnotho. She slowly stands up, ready to remove her gown. She lets it slip off her body and waits.
She hears footsteps.
"I'm here," Sylvia says happily, her voice soft and inviting.
As the footsteps get closer, she moves a little forward, then Letsatsi appears.
He screams. Sylvia screams too.
They both freeze, staring at each other in shock… then Letsatsi faints.
Ntobe rushes in behind him and screams loudly.
"Ma!!!" Ntobe cries out in horror.
Sylvia gasps loudly and quickly picks up her gown, wrapping it around her body in panic.
As she tries to move closer, Ntobe steps forward, shaking.
"Don't touch him!" Ntobe screams, tears streaming down her face. "Go to your room, Ma!" she adds, her voice breaking.
"I'm so…"
Ntobe cuts Sylvia off with a cold, painful look.
Sylvia freezes.
Then she quickly runs to her bedroom and locks the door. She sinks to the floor, her whole body shaking with shame and embarrassment.
She bites her tongue, tears filling her eyes.
"Shit… shit…" she whispers to herself.
Then, she hears laughter.
Sylvia freezes.
Slowly, she turns her head… and screams.
"Oh… not your son-in-law seeing you naked," a woman's voice says as she steps closer.
Sylvia trembles.
"Qhakaza…" she whispers, her voice shaking.
Qhakaza laughs, almost excited.
Sylvia shakes her head in disbelief.
"You are dead!!" Sylvia says, her voice trembling.
Qhakaza laughs softly and suddenly goes cold.
"Now… you've ruined your daughter's marriage," Qhakaza says, her voice sharp and chilling.
She steps closer, her eyes dark.
"Oh, Sylvia… Do you know how long I've waited for this day?" she asks quietly.
A pause.
"I'm here to ruin your life."
Sylvia's eyes widen again. Her breathing becomes heavy.
No! not Ntobe's marriage.
"My son-in-law went back to my daughter," Qhakaza says, laughing in a cruel, mocking way. "He wasn't able to come here and see you naked."
She tilts her head slightly, her smile dark.
"But I guess… your son-in-law will still think about you," Qhakaza adds, her voice dripping with cruelty.
"No!" Sylvia shouts, losing control.
She charges toward Qhakaza but suddenly her body gives in, and she falls hard onto her face.
"Ma!!! How could you? Why were you naked, huh?" Ntobe screams from outside Sylvia's bedroom door.
Sylvia freezes on the floor, her body trembling.
"Now Letsatsi saw you!" Ntobe cries, her voice breaking into painful sobs.
"Ma, what were you thinking?" she adds, completely shattered.
Sylvia presses her hands against the floor, trying to push herself up, but she feels weak, exposed, broken.
All she can hear.. is Qhakaza's laughter.
