The Lost Princess
The King's Decree
The king's face was twisted in anger as he turned to the knights. "Take the boy who helped my daughter escape and prepare him for execution," he commanded. "It will take place tomorrow morning in the castle courtyard."
My heart sank as I heard the king's words. The boy had only tried to help me, and now he was going to pay the ultimate price. I felt a surge of guilt and anger, but I knew I had to keep my emotions in check.
The king turned to King Ryker, who was watching the scene with interest. "I apologize for my daughter's misbehavior, Your Majesty," he said, his voice dripping with false sincerity. "She is still young and impetuous, but she will learn to control her temper."
King Ryker nodded graciously, his eyes flicking to me. "I am sure she will, Your Majesty," he said. "After all, she is a princess and will one day make a fine queen."
The king smiled, clearly pleased with himself. "And now, I would like to introduce you to my daughter, Princess Luna," he said, gesturing to me.
I curtsied slightly, but I refused to bow my head or show any deference to King Ryker. I knew it was a deliberate insult, but I didn't care. I was still seething with anger and resentment towards my father, and I wasn't about to pretend to be a dutiful daughter.
King Ryker's eyes narrowed slightly, but he said nothing. Instead, he turned to the king and began to discuss the terms of their alliance. I stood there, silent and defiant, my heart heavy with worry for the boy who had helped me.
As King Ryker and my father finished discussing the terms of their alliance, they began to chat amiably, like old friends. I stood there, still seething with anger and resentment, but trying to maintain a neutral expression. But as I listened to their conversation, my heart began to sink.
"I think it's time we discussed the next step in our alliance," King Ryker said, a sly smile spreading across his face. "A marriage between our families would strengthen our bond and secure our partnership for generations to come." My father nodded enthusiastically, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
"I have just the person in mind," King Ryker continued. "My son, Prince George, is a fine young man. He's strong, brave, and clever. I think he would make a perfect match for your daughter." My father beamed with pride, clearly thrilled at the prospect of marrying me off to Prince George.
I felt a wave of horror wash over me as I listened to their conversation. Marry Prince George? I had never even met the man, and yet my father was already discussing my marriage to him like I was some kind of commodity to be traded. I knew I had to think fast, to come up with a plan to escape this arranged marriage and take control of my own destiny.

King Ryker nodded, seeming to finalize the arrangement in his mind. "I will send some of my knights to fetch my son, Prince George," he said, turning to one of his attendants. "They will bring him back here tomorrow morning, and you, Princess, will have the opportunity to meet him."
I felt a cold dread creeping up my spine as I listened to King Ryker's words. Tomorrow morning? That was so soon. I wasn't prepared to meet some stranger, let alone marry him. But I knew I had to keep my emotions in check, at least for now.
"I will make sure to have everything prepared for Prince George's arrival," my father said, bowing his head slightly. "I'm sure my daughter is eager to meet him." He glanced at me, his eyes warning me to behave.
I forced a smile onto my face, trying to look like the dutiful daughter my father expected me to be. But inside, I was seething with rebellion. I would not go quietly into this arranged marriage. I would find a way to escape, no matter what it took.
The rest of the day was a whirlwind of activity as the castle staff scrambled to prepare for a grand feast in honor of King Ryker's visit. The king had declared that the feast would also serve as an announcement of my engagement to Prince George, and the castle was abuzz with excitement.
But not everyone was pleased with the arrangement. My mother, the queen, looked pale and drawn as she oversaw the preparations. I could tell that she was deeply unhappy with the king's decision, but as the queen, she had little say in the matter. She was bound by duty and tradition to support the king's decisions, no matter how much she might disagree with them.
As the evening wore on and the guests began to arrive, the queen's unhappiness became more and more apparent. She smiled and laughed and played the role of hostess to perfection, but I could see the tension in her shoulders and the sadness in her eyes. I knew that she was thinking of me, and of the fate that had been laid out for me.
The feast was a grand affair, with music and dancing and tables groaning under the weight of delicious food. King Ryker and my father sat at the head table, laughing and talking like old friends. I was seated beside them, trying to play the role of happy bride-to-be. But my heart wasn't in it. I was trapped, caught in a web of duty and obligation, and I didn't know how to escape.
As the night wore on, I couldn't help but feel like I was living in a nightmare. The music and laughter seemed to mock me, and the smiling faces of the guests seemed to hide their true thoughts. I felt like I was losing myself, like I was being swept up in a tide of circumstance and carried away from everything I had ever known.
