THE INCARCERATED STRANGER

THE INCARCERATED STRANGER

Chapter 50

FINALE

PARI

She never imagined that the polygamous marriage she entered would actually work out. Yet here she was, happy and living a fulfilling life. The first wife, surprisingly, wasn’t as bad as she initially seemed. Sure, in the beginning, she was difficult—cold, territorial, and a bit of a bully. But after a few tense days and a firm confrontation, things began to shift. The woman who once seemed like an adversary slowly softened, transforming into someone she now considers a friend, almost like a sister. It was astonishing how well they got along now.

And the best part? She Is happily married—and expecting twins! When she first learned the news, she was overwhelmed, her excitement laced with a bit of panic. Twins? Two babies? How on earth would her body handle that, especially considering her petite frame? The thought of giving birth to not one but two tiny humans felt both thrilling and terrifying. But deep down, she knew they’d figure it out together, as unconventional as their family might be.

She is in bed with Nipho, cuddling closely as the chilly weather wraps around them. He returned last night from his business trip.

As they lay there, wrapped in the warmth of each other's presence, Nipho gently strokes her hair, his touch soft and comforting.

"I missed this," he whispers, his voice carrying a mix of exhaustion and contentment.

She smiles, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

"I missed you too," she replies, her voice barely above a whisper.

Outside, the wind whistles softly, making the room feel even cozier. The world beyond the blankets seems distant, almost unimportant, as they savor the intimacy of the moment.

"How was your trip?" she asks after a long pause, her fingers tracing idle patterns on his arm.

"Productive but exhausting," Nipho admits with a sigh. “I couldn't wait to get back home to you.”

His words make her heart flutter, and she leans up to kiss his cheek. “I'm glad you're back. It's not the same without you here.”

He tightens his arms around her, pulling her closer. “I’m not going anywhere for a while. Let’s just stay here a little longer.”

She nods, closing her eyes, feeling a deep sense of peace as the chilly day unfolds outside their little sanctuary…

"How is my wife, Blade?" Mangaliso asks the doctor, concern evident in his voice. His gaze shifts to Blade, eager for an answer. Yes, his wife. He and Ayakha had tied the knot just a few hours ago, but their celebration was cut short when Ayakha fainted as they were about to leave for their honeymoon.

"She’s fine, nothing to worry about," Blade replies calmly.

Mangaliso frowns, his worry unshaken. "Then why did she faint?" he presses.

Blade smiles, an odd expression crossing his face, as though he’s holding back a laugh. "She fainted like anyone would who doesn’t realize they’re pregnant," he says, his tone teasing.

Mangaliso stares at him, utterly baffled. "What do you mean?" he asks, his confusion growing.

Blade leans back, raising an eyebrow.

“Come on, Mangaliso, you’re not dense. Your wife is pregnant. You’re going to be a father.”

Mangaliso’s expression shifts from confusion to disbelief, then to a slow, spreading smile. "What? Are you serious?" he asks, his voice tinged with excitement and astonishment.

Blade narrows his eyes at him playfully. “Are you doubting my qualifications as a doctor, Mangaliso?”

Mangaliso shakes his head, his grin widening. “I just… I can’t believe it. This is incredible!”

Blade chuckles, standing to leave. “Believe it, Dad to be. Congratulations.”

Mangaliso stands there for a moment, letting the news sink in. His heart swells with joy and disbelief, and he quickly makes his way back to Ayakha’s room. As he enters, he sees her lying on the hospital bed, her face pale but peaceful.

Her eyes flutter open when she hears him approach. "Mangaliso," she murmurs, her voice soft.

He rushes to her side, taking her hand in his. "Ayakha," he says gently, his eyes brimming with emotion. “You’re okay. Thank God.”

She looks at him, a hint of confusion in her tired gaze. “What happened? Why am I here?”

"You fainted," he explains, stroking her hand. "We were so worried, but Blade says you’re fine." He hesitates, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “And… there’s something else.”

Her brow furrows. “Something else? What is it?”

He grins, unable to hold it back any longer. “You’re pregnant, Ayakha. We’re going to have a baby.”

Her eyes widen in surprise, and her hand instinctively moves to her stomach. "Pregnant?" she whispers, her voice laced with both shock and wonder.

He nods, his smile radiant. “Yes. Blade confirmed it. We’re going to be parents.”

Tears well up in her eyes as a smile breaks across her face. “Mangaliso... I can’t believe it. This is amazing.”

He leans down, kissing her forehead tenderly. “You’ve made me the happiest man alive, Ayakha. First, you agreed to marry me, and now this. I’m so grateful for you.”

She squeezes his hand, her tears now streaming freely. “And I’m grateful for you. I love you.”

"I love you too," he says, his voice thick with emotion. They sit there, hand in hand, basking in the overwhelming joy of this unexpected blessing.

Ayakha is finally discharged from the hospital, excitement bubbling within her. She can’t wait to share the news with their family—they’re expecting a baby!

What a surprising way to discover she was pregnant—fainting just moments after marrying the love of her life. The memory makes her smile. Despite the unexpected turn of events, she feels nothing but joy.

For now, though, the honeymoon will have to wait until tomorrow. Blade’s advice was clear: she needs to rest and recover today. And as much as she’s eager to celebrate, she knows taking care of herself and the little life growing inside her comes first.

With Mangaliso by her side, she’s more than happy to follow the doctor’s orders. After all, tomorrow promises a fresh start to their new journey, together as husband and wife—and soon, as parents.

As they arrive home, Mangaliso quickly gets out of the car and walks around to open the door for Ayakha. He helps her out, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips and smiling warmly. His happiness radiates from him—it’s impossible to miss.

They step into the house, where both their families are gathered. The moment they walk in, a wave of relief washes over the group, evident in the smiles and relaxed expressions.

"Makoti, are you okay?" Hleliwe asks, concern lacing her voice.

Ayakha nods, but before she can respond, Mangaliso speaks up. "She’s fine, family. Relax," he says confidently, as if she’s incapable of answering for herself.

"That’s good to hear," Donga says, still looking a bit worried. “But what made you faint? You really scared us.”

Mangaliso can no longer contain his joy, his grin spreading wider as he blurts out,

“Well, the doctor gave us some amazing news. My wife and I are expecting!”

The room falls silent for a moment, and then Bradley, Ayakha’s father, steps forward, his eyes wide with surprise.

"Are you serious?" he asks, looking at his daughter with a mixture of joy and pride.

Ayakha smiles and nods, and that’s all it takes. The room erupts with happiness as everyone gets up, hugging her and Mangaliso, showering them with congratulations and well-wishes.

As Ayakha takes it all in, her gaze shifts to the faces around her, glowing with excitement. Yet, she notices the absence of Lulama, someone who has always distanced herself. But instead of feeling hurt, Ayakha brushes it off. Lulama’s indifference doesn’t bother her anymore.

Her attention drifts to Mangaliso, whose smile couldn’t possibly get any wider. He looks almost ridiculous with how happy he is, but that only makes her love him more. Her husband—the love of her life, the man who once entered her world as her incarcerated stranger client—is now the man she’s building a future with. And that thought fills her heart with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and joy.

She can’t help but be grateful for this moment. Surrounded by love, laughter, and the promise of a beautiful future, her heart swells with joy. She smiles to herself, knowing that despite everything, life has brought her here—to love, to family, to hope.
