Ultimatum

As three vans followed by a convoy of police cars, take an off ramp to a small private airfield 200 yards out, about 10 to 15 men dressed like bodyguards can be seen standing by an elegant jet and a black limousine.

“Well, well…it looks like we are right on time,” Hlengiwe says to Qhawe and Zinhle, sitting behind her. They are in the first van and the other agents are in the second and third van.

“slow down, I don’t want to spook them,” Hlengiwe instructs the driver.

Luckily for them the one-way small road leading to this airfield has thick and tall trees in the side, which form a fence. This is a perfect cover for them.

The driver slows down, “park here, don’t go through the gate, they might spot us,” Hlengiwe says and the driver does exactly that, all the cars behind each other using the trees as cover.

“Back up team C, go around to the east and north gate, I don’t want anyone escaping, you hear me?” Hlengiwe says as she speaks on the Mic. “Roger that,” someone on the radio responds as the cars behind the third van turn around and go east and north gates. There are no sirens this time. Hlengiwe can’t risk Locker slipping away, again. After the police cars have moved they all get out of the vans with their guns ready for actions.

“You, you and you take that side,” Hlengiwe says as she whispers to the agents pointing to where she wants them positioned. She then signals to Themba and Zinhle that they are with her.

They go low and stop by the gate and then she raises her hand to signal 1… 2…3 as soon as she goes 3 they all storm through the gate and catch the bodyguards by surprise. The gunfight ensues on every end. Luckily this airfield has no houses close to it or public facilities where people can be caught in   the crossfire. The firefight goes on for several minutes but when it all ends, all the bodyguards are down in a pool of blood.

At that moment, Hlengiwe and the team approach the limousine, because from the bodies that are in the floor there’s no sign of Locker and the limo is tilted, it is hard to see if someone is inside.

“It’s over Locker, come out of the car now,” Hlengiwe shouts as she along with agents point the gun at the car. The police are at a distance covering all the exits. They also have pointed their guns at the limo.

“I said get out of the car Locker,” Hlengiwe shouts again, this time louder, “Don’t let me force you out. Five seconds and then we are coming in,” she says as they get closer to the car. Few seconds later, the door opens and out Locker with his hands in the air. He stands there starring at Hlengiwe with eyes that are burning with resentment for her. At that moment two agents approach Locker and cuff him, taking him into the van.

The airfield is now having bodies scattered all over and the forensic team arrived shortly to start on their work while Hlengiwe and her team had taken Locker into custody.

In the afternoon they get back in the house and Hlengiwe tells Nothemba what happened, which of course comes as a relief to her and she is hoping things from now will change and get back to what they once were. Of course none of them remember how things were like, they have been so involved in the dark world of espionage for so long. The Nkosi mansion had been turned into a safe house and command centre for operations.

Maybe it’s time Zinhle, Themba and Hlengiwe go back to their home now and live their normal lives. If they look back at this drama they may feel though that it was all worth it.

Few hours after the apprehension of Jack Locker the news all over were having field day, changing the stakes in the political sphere.

With Dan and a few of Locker's friends having agreed to turn state witness, all was left now was a trial of Locker and his associates on charges of murder, corruption and money laundering.
