FOURTY NINE
Evelyn: It was about 24 year ago l think l had come from a club that night after drinking booze enjoying life , l wasn't that drunk but tipsy .l felt like someone was following me so l looked back . l saw a figure l tried running but the foot steps kept on getting heavier as l continued to run l hit on someone , a tall man l couldn't see his face ....well l was raped by two man whom l don't know . Then weeks later l found out l was pregnant , l wanted to terminate the pregnancy but l thought about the complications l could die terminating it . So instead l decided to keep the baby , everyday l'd beat myself up l just didn't have love for the baby l just wanted it gone . They day l gave birth to a baby girl call me a bad mother if you like but my hatred just grew towards that little soul ...it caused me pain that l took a decision to dump her at some farm the next day but atleast l had a heart to name her . I wrote her name on the little blanket l had covered her with .But guilt eats me every day ...l tried looking for her l failed even people who lived near the farm didn't know anything about the child . l hate myself for the decision l took now l don't know if my baby is alive or dead l just wanted sh l could go back in time and fix things .
the two brothers looked touched but more hurt by the face that Evelyn never even bothered to have a motherly bond with her child even when she was just an embryo . She was hated for the deeds of the man who created her ... regarded as a product of rape . Did she deserve any of this ?no she didn't . She was just a soul that was created in bad circumstances but that wasn't reason enough for Evelyn to dump her own blood .
Kumkani: What name did you give to her , your daughter ?
Evelyn : I named her Anashe (with god ) for some reason l believed that God would be with her even lf l dumped her and l just believed god could watch over her caused l could've failed to .
She's a crying mess it's not even funny .
Samkelo : What if we told you that your daughter is alive , that we know Anashe how would you feel ?
she shoots her head up looking at the two brothers.
Evenly : l would be happy to hear that she's alive , l would tell her how much l regret what l did and how much l would want us to have a mother and daughter relationship .
Kumkani : Good for you because she's alive .
Evelyn start shaking when she hears that , Kumkani moves towards her in worry .
Evelyn : My daughter-shes alive .?
she asks before dropping to the floor seems like she's having a stroke .
Samkelo : **** manje the old lay wants to die before meeting her daughter .
before Kumkani could reply Evelyn's husband James walks in but quickly runs to his wife as soon as he saw that she's on the floor .
James: Evelyn -Eve ...what did you do to her ? who are you should l call the police ...
The old fine man says already digging his hands in his pocket in search for his phone
Samkelo : There'll be no need for that , why would we try killing an old woman ... she's dying from guilt nje Musa uksola thina.
Kumkani: This is not the time for squabbles , Mr lm taking her to the hospital if you don't mind .
James : That's my wife l'll drive her to the hospital but for now please find your way out of my house .
Samkelo was about to speak but Kumkani stops him .
Kumkani : Okay we are leaving but we will be back .
He turns leaving with Samkelo . A few minutes later James picks his wife up and quickly drives to the hospital . he rushes in with Evelyn in his arms , doctors quickly notice him they rush her to the ward.
James seats on the corridor benches asking himself who are those two boys who came to his house and what might have triggered Evelyn to have a stroke . but he hopes that Evelyn will answer all his questions in due time .
Kumkani parks his car outside his house and Samkelo parks behind him . They both walk out of their cars .
Samkelo : So what are we going to do since magriza decided to let guilt eat her .
Kumkani : That's my future mother inlaw you better behave .
Samkelo : Yeah yeah so ?
Kumkani : l don't know lm thinking that l should first have a talk with Anashe after that maybe we could all pay my in-laws a visit but that's if l come to an understanding with Anashe .
Samkelo : It'll be a hard pill to swallow indeed but l hope she'll be able to understand , anyways bafo let me get going my wife is waiting for me .
He says fist bumping Kumkani .
Kumkani (smile's) : We need to visit mkhulu soon .
Samkelo : indeed , surely he'll be proud of us .
He says getting into his car , Kumkani walks inside while he drives off
