CHAPTER 22
KEPTCHAPTER 22
I'm woken up by Ndyebo kissing my forehead and lips. He does this every morning when he's about to live. I'm always tired these days. I'm due anytime and with the rate I'm going I know I'll be delivering anytime soon. I open my eyes and look at him. He's not dressed as he usually is around this time. There are mild pains here and there but nothing alarming. It's still early anyways.
Lilitha:You're not going to work?
Ndyebo:Not today did you forget? Your due date is today.
Lilitha:I don't feell anything other than exhaustion kodwa babe.
Ndyebo:and it's still going to be a long day. Udabsi ufike layer phezolo. I'm going to fetch a few things ekhaya then ndiyothatha umamakho and your sister.
Lilitha:Y'all know ndizozala not bring Jesus right?
Ndyebo:He might as well be Jesus. This is our first child babe and he'll arrive like the king he is.
Lilitha:Whatever you say bhuti. I'm going back to sleep.
He kissed my lips one more time before walking away from our bed. I go back to sleep. With the pains here and there. I'm woken up by the pains intensifying.
I wake up and make the bed before going to the bathroom to take a bath. By the time I walk out of the shower. The pains are getting closer and closer together.
I change into comfortable clothing. Ndyebo walks in as I'm putting my swollen feet in my sleepers. He puts a courie plastic bag on the couch closer to the door and comes to me.
Ndyebo:I didn't think you'd be up by this time.
Lilitha:Yeah me either but I think your king is ready to grace us with his presence.
Ndyebo:You're in pain?
Lilitha:Just a little bit. Is Naye in here?
Ndyebo:Yeah utata says umamakhe dropped him off later yesterday. So we won him over.
Lilitha:That means she won't be anywhere near us?
Ndyebo:Yes but utata will drop him off to her on holidays when she wants him.
Lilitha:she really wanted money?
Ndyebo:Yeah she thought Nzolo would leave things to her. Apparently he knew she was already pregnant.
Lilitha:I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He wasn't the Nzolo I knew before his death.
I really wasn't that much surprised when she said he knew. Ndyebo takes my baby bag and mine then we walked out of our bedroom down the stairs. The whole family is here.
Lizeka:Are you in pain?
Lelam:She's definitely in pain mama look at her face. Remind me to never get pregnant in my life.
Ndyebo:Tata please bring the car around.
Tata got up walking out with his car keys. Everyone followed getting in their cars. I'm going to be a mother finally. I could feel warmth swelling in my belly up to my heart.
I felt ready. I was going to love my son more than anything in the world. I would give him more than he needed but still teach him more life and wisdom. Finally God was answering my prayers.
I wanted a natural birth and everything was ready by the time we got to the hospital. I look up at my husband's face. He looks scared and a little bit of excitement visible in his face.
Doctor:She's pretty close. Prep the first. She's ready for labor.
It doesn't take that long for me to be moved. Ndyebo is with me holding my hand as we have discussed before.
Doctor:I need you to push exactly when you feel the pain okay sis?
I nod drenched in sweat. I didn't think labor pains were this deep. When they hit its like my body is going to break into pieces. When the pain hits I push giving it all my might. I don't want this pain.
Ndyebo:Pish baby I'm right here with you.
I push harder and harder feeling myself getting weaker with each push. I push three more times before a loud wail fills the room. Trembling. Ndyebo takes him from the doctor's with a smile on his face.
Ndyebo:We have a beautiful boy babe. Thank you.
