CHAPTER 19
KEPTCHAPTER 19
I really did not want to be here at the mall. I'm already 6 months pregnant and heavy as hell, but this man wants to eat out. On a Monday, even. He has my hand in his rubbing thr inside of my palm. I look up at him with a frown, and he smiles. I think I might be carrying the biggest baby to ever exist or its twins. I can't be this heavy at 6 months.
Ndyebo:Baby, stop complaining you need the exercise.
Lilitha:What? Dintyebile?
Ndyebo:Nope, awutyebanga awubhityanga, but you need to go out. You hardly go to your store even.
Lilitha:I'm lazy to drive babe you know nje nawe.
Ndyebo:But I usually offer to drive you still awufuni. Why?
Lilitha:I work from home, babe. I'll go check when I feel like it is just not now.
Ndyebo:Whatever you say, mntuwam. This place is beautiful.
Lilitha:I know, right? I didn't think it would be this beautiful in person.
The place is immaculate to say the list. A hostess greets us at the door. Taking both our jackets and leading us to a table for two. It's a classy restaurant every woman in heels and man in suits.
Ndyebo:You love it?
Lilitha:yes baby it's beautiful.
Ndyebo: My friend's wife owns it. You'll see he... Ohh there she is.
Lilitha:Babe, that's Sihlanganise Maxhosa.
Ndyebo:Ewe, she's married to my friend.
Lilitha:she's so pretty, babe. I look like a hippo. Why did you bring me here?
Ndyebo:You look beautiful, babe, even prettier than any woman in this room.
I laugh, shaking my head. This man will blow my horn until it bursts if that ever happens. The woman finally arrives, smiling radiantly at us.
Ndyebo:Nise kaMaxhosa unjani?
Sihlanganise:doing good Advocate. Hi Uthandiwe I'm Sihalnganise a wife to his friend. I'm so sorry I couldn't make it to your wedding. My daughter wasn't well that whole week.
Ndyebo:How is she anyway?
Sihlanganise:doing better, that is why I'm here today. What do I get you guys?
Lilitha:Today's special, please. People can't stop complementing your menu.
Sihlanganise:we try. I would suggest a bottle of wine with today's special but juice it will be.
Ndyebo:But I can get a glass f...
Lilitha:Not a chance.
She smiled and walked away from our table. I turned to look at this man next to me. He chuckled before kissing me, rubbing my bulging stomach.
Lilitha:What?
Ndyebo:I love you. I know I don't tell you enough. And I'm really grateful I got to marry you and experience all this with you.
Lilitha:I'm glad too. I guess ancestors do know best.
Ndyebo:even though ingoNzolo.
We both laughed just as Milani walked up to our table. She didn't see us, but what caught my attention was her invisible bump. Shouldn't she be ready to pop by now?
She halted on her steps once her eyes landed on us. Her eyes widened in shock when she took me in before she turned around and ran for the hills.
Ndyebo:I told you she's not pregnant.
I really didn't believe him. I badly wanted to, but how? When man has repeatedly humiliated women out there? It happened to me once I didn't want to go through it again. A room for disappointment never hurt anyone.
Ndyebo:I'm a fully KEPT man, baby. I'm stuck right here with you for as long as I live.
Lilitha:I know now. I love you.
Ndyebo:I love you even more.
Our food finally came and we ate talking about everything and anything under the sun. When we're done he pays then we leave going to his parents house. My phone rings just as we pull out of the packing space.
Lilitha:I don't know this number.
Ndyebo:don't answer ut then.
I let it ring to voice-mail but the caller doesn't give up. I sigh answering the call.
Lilitha:Yes.
"Lilitha."
Lilitha:Yes what can I help you with?
"It's me Angela Maranga."
