CHAPTER 8

NDYEBO DIKO

My phone keeps beeping its messages from Milani. I haven't spoken to her since that award night. What she did that day was low, even for her. I don't even understand her attitude towards Lilitha whilst she herself is doing nothing with her life. I'm called inside. Everything went well according to my uncle. I sigh, putting my phone on silent before getting out of the car.

Uncle:Yazi, you're lucky.

Ndyebo:Lucky malume?

Uncle:Ewe, that woman is a rare gem. Your brother saw that and went for it. He bragged about her. The things she helped him with in business and after he started seeing his business started doing wonders.

Ndyebo:She's beautiful.

Uncle:Treat her right. I saw your fiance you might love her but she's not the type of woman you bring home to your parents and trust me she's not the type to build a home with. Take it from me, uyandazi. I lost my wife because girls like her look at me now lonely because I only thought with my ****. Don't make the same mistakes as me, bhutana.

I nod, but then what he's telling me is not what I'm in. The situation is totally different, but he's right. Milani doesn't care about business as long as I take care of her.

I greet the elders, and then I'm shown to the dining room. The table is all set, and it's huge. The house is a single story, and it feels like home. Clean and warm. She walks in, following behind her sister.

Malume was right she's gorgeous with her flawless brown skin. She looks even more beautiful without makeup. She smiles shyly when she catches me, looking at her. I'm sure I look like acreep. She greets the elders, smiling fondly at my father.

Diko:makoti unjani?

Lilitha:ndiyaphila tata unjani wena?

I noticed how she bends her knees when taking an elders hand. My brother was right she's everything and anything you can wish for in a woman.

Diko:siyaphila ntombi.

She walks to her grandmother and kisses her cheek, smiling. I don't know what her grandmother is saying, but her eyes land on me, and she once again smiles shyly. My heart swells when she looks at me with a smile on her face. Is it okay to fall for your brothers wife?

I've listened and watched my brother swoon over this woman. I've heard him cry and laugh, describing the kind of feelings he felt for her. How can I love the same woman? How do I look at her and not remember my brother's words ?

But those eyes, how can I not fall in love with her when she looks at me like that. She's looking at me like her world begins and ends with me. Or maybe I'm seeing things. I'm just trying to ease my conscience.

Uncle:Stop staring at her like that. You'll make her shy.

I clear my throat, looking away from her. It's my turn to feel embarrassed. She walks towards the kitchen and comes back with a dish and paper towels. I can't help as my **** strains on my pants. She's helping me wash my hands. She gives me the paper towels to dry my hands.

Ndyebo:Thank you, MaDlomo.

She smiles and walks away. With my eyes following her every move. How is it possible to feel these things? I've been fighting with my heart the whole week. Willing it to forget about her. To not think about my brother's wife like that, but I can't it's worse as I see her moving around the house, making sure we're all fed. She's laughing at something her sister said as I help pack up the dishes we're all done with breakfast.

Her mother gets the dishes from my hand. I smile, rubbing the back of my neck.

Ndyebo:umh, Mama, is it possible to take Lilitha out for the day? I want to discuss a few things with her.

Lizeka:You can go on ahead ndoda but if you will be late, call us so we can know she's safe.

Ndyebo:okay mama I'll do that. Enkosi.

Lizeka:Please don't hurt my daughter Ndyebo she's been through a lot, and I don't want to see her being broken more than she is now. You can see her laughing and smiling, but I haven't seen a smile that reaches her eyes since the day she found out her husband was cheating on her.

Ndyebo:I promise to take good care of her mama, and you don't have to worry. I'll treat her like the queen she is.

Lizeka:Be happy.

I smile as she walks away. I say my goodbyes and go wait by my car for her. The elders seem to be having fun. I won't be a party poper and cut their party shot. I see her coming she has her phone at hand. The print dress she has on suits her.

Lilitha:umama uthi uyandibiza.

Ndyebo:I want to show you something. Get in.

Lilitha:I have to tell them if we're leaving.

Ndyebo:Sukhathazeka, I've already told your mother of my plans.

She nods before getting inside the car, and her short legs are not helping her at all. I chuckle, shaking my heard.

Ndyebo:How do you get inside that beast?

Lilitha:The important part is that ndiyangena.

Ndyebo:Whatever you say, mam.

I walk around the car, turning off my phone. I don't want any disturbance today. I want her to see me the same way I see her.
