CHAPTER 5

KEPT

CHAPTER 5

I remember how happy I was when I got married to Nzolo. He had been such a sweetheart the past 5 years of our relationship. He treated me like a princess. I felt loved and valued. He listened. I loved that about him. He would take me out at least three times a week. Ebheja. Ohhh, did he? I never ran out of money. I look at how my sister can't keep still. She's bouncing on each of her feet with a wide grin on her face. She comes to me, taking my hand before rushing inside, dragging me with her. She's such a happy soul. In her life, all things are rosey and sunshine.

Lelam:You were taking too long. I had to decline lunch from mom to be here. You didn't tell me you're getting a Raptor.

Lilitha:None of your business, Lelam.

Lelam:Mmh, are we using late husband's money?

Lilitha:Might as well since he's decided to play God with my life.

Lelam:Great move, but you have to get a house as well. It's a better investment than a car.

Lilitha:Don't worry, I know exactly what I'm doing.

A salesman comes to us with a box of keys. I can't help but smile. My sister takes a video as I open the car looking inside. Whuuu, I've always wanted this car since it dropped. Look at me now. I know if Nzolo was still here and my husband, he would have made sure I got it at the same time it dropped.

I'll never understand how that man ended up in her arms. He loved me. He worshipped the ground I walked on. He would do everything and anything to see me happy. I feel Lelam holding me from behind.

I might be mad as hell, but God knows I miss him. He hurt me more than anyone I've ever loved, but the good outweighs the bad. I know I would've ended up in his arms again if he didn't die.

Here, I am three years later, still single with no intentions of moving on from him. I know deep down I'll never get anyone who is going to love me as much as he did. There can never be another him.

Lelam:I know exactly how you feel mntase. I've seen him at his best, but he's not here now. You have to move on. You can't do this to yourself. Soon, you'll be thirty. You have to move on. You're still young to mourn for a man this long.

Lilitha:With his brother, though?

Lelam:I remember how you told me ancestors know best. You might be looking for him, but he knows he's not what you need. Let him guide you to what you need. Trust him. He has never hurt you in his sane mind he won't start now.

I had told her about what utatazala told us. I wipe away my tears and then start the car gleaming in delight. I finally have my dream car. After signing everything and finalizing payments, we drive out. We'll get my car layer today. She'll be using it from now on. I'm a beast kind of girl now.

Lelam:God, these seats are so comfortable I could bask and bask in them.

Lilitha:This is my car sisi you ain't basking anywhere .

I look at myself in the mirror and smile. I look good. Milisa did a really good job on my face. I grab my phone and bag, walking out of my bedroom. Mom and dad are outside admiring my new baby. I bumped into Lelam as I walked out of my bedroom. She smiled naughtyly at me, jumping up and down like a kid. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. I smiled, unable to help myself.

Lilitha:What is it?

Lelam:I just saw South Africa's finest bachelor, soon to be your husband. He's in the lounge as we speak. At least today, I got to see him up close. No offense bhut'Nzolo has nothing on him. Yhuu mhle ubhut'Ndyebo.

Lilitha:Breathe mntase. What is he doing here?

Lelam:Apparently, he's going to the same party as you, so he came to get you.

I frowned. How did he know I was going to the same party as him? I only got my invite today even.

Lelam:He's the one who invited you. Come, let's go. He looks so yummy in his suit.

We walked to the lounge hand in hand. Whatever conversation they were having died down the minute we walked in. Lelam wasn't lying. The man looks dangerously handsome. He gets up to his feet, and his dark gaze lingers on me. He's really a lawyer that dark gaze and aura tell it all.

Lilitha:Umh, mholweni.

Ndyebo:Mholo Lilly. You look beautiful.

I rub the back of my head, not knowing what to say or how to behave. Nzolo, wasn't this intimidating. I could look at him in the eye, but Ndyebo isn't like him. I can't help the blush that creeps up on my cheeks, and because I'm light skinned, I'm sure I'm all pink already.

Lilitha:Thank you. I didn't know you were the one who sent the invite.

Ndyebo:Umh, it wasn't really me, but I thought I could come fetch you since you're on the guest list.

Lilitha:Ohh, okay, umh dad, I'll call you later. Bye, guys.

Mom:Have fun, no drinking Lilly.

I laugh, walking out with Ndyebo following behind me. He came in a Bentley mmh. He opens the door for me, and I thank him before getting inside the car.
