CHAPTER 1

KEPT

CHAPTER 1

"Don't you think it's a little too late for this? I know you're cheating Nzolo. I have known for months now. You know what hurts the most is the fact that you're still lying to me with a straight face. Please sign those papers and get the hell out of my house. Those are your clothes leave."

He rubs his face. I can tell he's frustrated. It happens every time things don't go his way. I know for a fact that he'll try to manipulate me into staying with him, but not anymore. He was here when I lost two of my kids acting clueless. kanti, his mistress is the result of my pain. I've always heard about women from Limpompo. I just didn't think I would fall victim to one because of an unfaithful bastard.

Nzolo:Baby, can we talk about this? Please, I'm sorry, but we can get th...

Lilitha:Get through shit my foot Nzolo. You were here when I miscarried both times. You cried with me acting like everything is known to you. Was this your plan? To kill every child produced by my womb while you raise her bastards?!!!

Nzolo:Baby, please calm down.

Lilitha:I'm not calming down until I see your signature in those damn papers, and when you get to her, tell her I'm coming for her with everything I have. I'll destroy her she better watch her back.

Nzolo:That's not you talking. Lilly, you're not a violent person. Don't let circumstances change who you are.

Lilitha:Nzolo, sign those papers.

He got up from the couch and signed. The bastard is crying for what? Going out there to get tikoloshe's to invade my womb and kill. I hate whoever invented witchcraft. He turns to look at me. I'm really not going to fall for his crocodile tears he can go die on the nearest cliff for all I care.

Nzolo:For what it's worth, I really love you. I love you so much it scares me. Please look after yourself. You'll find someone who'll love you better than I did

He walks up to me and kisses my forehead. He turns to walk away, grabbing his suitcases by the door. He walks away, leaving with my heart. He broke it, but I know he'll always be the one for me. A sob escapes my quivering lips, and my legs fail me. I drop down and wail.

"Lilly!!! Lilly wakes up!!!"

I jump out of the bed drenched in sweat it's happening again. I don't know how I'm supposed to move on with my life when this dream keeps recurring in my sleep. It's been a whole 3 years, but it's still like the day it happened.

Lelam:Mama says you should get ready. We're going to church.

My sister says, looking at me with pity. I don't understand why Nzolo can't just rest in peace without bothering me. If he's not calling me home, it's that day recurring over and over in my dreams. Ain't the dead supposed to stay dead.

Lilitha:I'm not going. I have to go to work and prepare for the stock that's being delivered tomorrow.

Lelam:Okay. Please get some rest. This is not healthy.

I nod, dismissing her and sorting out my bed. I should move out soon. Being home with my parents isn't helping me in anyway its probably why I'm still dreaming about that damned ancestor. I take my toiletry bag and go to my sister's bathroom she has a shower, and I need it, not a tub. I know I'm going to fall asleep and dream about him again.

Lizeka:We're leaving your breakfast in the microwave. Your father will wake up soon. Please make his tea for him.

Lilitha:Okay, Mama, enjoy church.

Lizeka:I'll pray for you too, dear. You need God in your life.

I just nod. I never know how to answer my mother when she talks about her God. I get inside my sisters room and go to her bathroom. I set up the water and strip naked. My mind drifted to the dream I had about two days ago. I was at the cemetery. Maybe I should go there and see what is that important.

After showering, I put on my black tight jeans and a criss-cross tank top with my white airforce ones. My hair is a mess. I should pass by the salon.

Lilitha:Dad, should I make your tea?

Zolani:No, sisi, I need a glass of Coca-Cola.

I laugh and walk to the kitchen, getting him a glass of Coca-Cola. I walk back to his bedroom and give him his glass.

Lilitha:Mom is going to kill us both tata.

Zolani:Don't worry, I'll hide the evidence before she gets here.

Lilitha:You better. Let me get going, tata.

Zolani:Be safe.

Lilitha:Always xhego lam.

I kiss him on the cheek and walk away going to the kitchen. I sit down and eat my breakfast. My phone vibrates people who are eager for the spring line of clothes. We're all glad winter is over. When I'm done, I rinse my plate and put it on the dish wreck. I get my phone, bag and car keys then walk out to my car.

The drive to work isn't that long. I have a boutique selling everything from shoes, clothing, lingerie, and hair and their products with makeup. It's a one-stop shop for my ladies and they like it. I'm also online catering for women all over South Africa. It's doing good, actually better than good.

I open the shop just as Milisa arrives, and she helps me with admin work. We sort out the remaining stock we have from our winter line and pack it on the sale side. We only drop our prices by 20% still leaving us with a profit. It's all about the money.

Milisa:Your hair looks like a mess.

Lilitha:I know. Ohh and I packed a small package for you so get it before I lock up.

She looks at me suspiciously she's getting married in a week, so I had to get her a little something. She takes the package, and we walk out, locking behind us. I drop her off by the rank and then drive to the salon.

Gloria:You look like a mess.

Lilitha:I feel like one Gloria ntombi. Please help me out. I came with peace.

She smiles and helps me out. Once I'm done, I look like a housewife from one of the influential burbs of Johannesburg.

Lilitha:Thank you Gloria see you soon.

She laughs as I walk out after paying. I bump into a beautiful woman walking into the salon.

"Ohh my God, I'm so sorry I wasn't looking where I'm going."

Lilitha:It's okay, really.

"Wow, you look gorgeous. "

Lilitha:Thank you. You look good yourself.

"Thank you."

Lilitha:I have to go bye.

"Bye."
